Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles — Local services in Richmond

I have been waiting since July 2024 for a refund of my sales and use tax! This is unacceptable. Clearly additional training is needed at the DMV because the staff is unaware of the rules and regulations.

It first started when I went to title my out-of-state vehicle. The person at the window incorrectly charged me the sales and use tax claiming that I needed to show proof that I paid it in the other state. WRONG! Under VA law, proof is not needed since I had my vehicle for over a year!

Then, in December 2024, I was told I needed to provide a letter from the lessor stating that the refund can be released to me, even though I was the one who paid it, but fine. The leasing company provided the letter.

Then, they couldn’t associate the letter with the other documents and I needed to resubmit the entire package. I was told to fax it, which I did, but they could not find it. I asked to email and was told they could not accept emailed documents.

I mailed it via UPS on 9/18/2024 and called today and was told they can’t release it to me because the lessor has to request it! Are you kidding me??!!!! None of this was ever mentioned by any of the countless representatives I’ve spoken to for the past year and a half!! This has been beyond frustrating and I am so annoyed by the lack of accountability and transparency!

Do better VA DMV! No one should have to deal with this level of service, rather...

I made my 9 am appointment at the Broad St. DMV over a week in advance because I had to take off work to come in when they are available to do driving tests. I got multiple reminder emails about this appointment and then when I come in for it the doors are all locked with one big red “Open at 10:00” sign. I went around to see if I was maybe at the wrong door, checked my emails to see if anything changed, looked up the DMV hours to make sure I wasn’t confused, and called to see how to come in for my appointment. There were several other people outside on there phones, probably doing what I was doing, and eventually there’s a security guard outside. He starts telling everyone they’re on a 2-hour delay. After waiting forever I finally speak with someone on the phone who tells me she can’t guarantee when or if I’ll be seen at all today. She said there were “a lot of appointments before they opened” and that I would now be a walk in. I took off the morning at work for my appointment, I can’t take off all day to walk in. The fact that I didn’t even get a simple email is absolutely ridiculous.

Update: Attempted to walk in at 10 like the woman at the phone and the man at the door said. They are now not doing road tests “until 12 if at all”. The roads are literally just wet from last night and the temperature is not and has not...

Richmond Board of motor vehicles need to be audit and come election time we need to be mindful who we put in the office because these car dealers going around Falsifying bill sale papers it’s fraud but they think they privileged and they can get away with it and DMV is just as bad cause they allowed to slip through the cracks either when it’s reported to them and complaints failed. I spoke with a woman there and she tried. She pulled me up. One of my vehicles came up but the other ones that I traded in, didn’t come up cause I traded it and then she gonna tell me what you gotta prove it in civil court yeah that’s why I sent the paperwork to prove that they lied that they fraud a dealer cannot say that he paid more for loan than what he did. they can be reported to the trade program they can be reported to Virginia motor vehicle commissioner office the state of Commonwealth just make up their own rules but there are rules that you do have to follow it don’t matter whether you are car dealer like crooked Rick Hendrick cause he’s one of them But the falsify a bill of sale paperwork in reference to a motor vehicle is bad is dishonest and untrustworthy The Motor vehicle need to be audited The same way we vote people and we can vote and...
