I love how people complain (in multiple spaces) but choose to ignore facts. Fact, Loracana says that tournaments must do a minimum of three rounds and they give an RECOMMENDATION on the number of rounds based on people, but it is NOT a mandate. The tournament judge was Hunter. The employee in the tournament was not actually working, but helping Hunter by handing out the slips and announcing the pairings, as it was River Falls Days and the store was busy. The employee in the tournament only won two rounds and didn’t even make top 8. In fact, only one league player won a card. Everything was on the up and up. The employee in the tournament never made judge calls either. The few times a judge was asked for other tournament players made the call. No one bothered to get the official judge, Hunter.
This is a small family owned store with a decent amount of league players that weren’t expecting a large amount of non-league players to show up. They based the time of the tournament on the number of people they have had before and signed up in store as the last tournament people signed up on Melee and didn’t show up. Hence not having another employee onsite to help Hunter. They did the best they could to adjust and they did great.
Updating my review after my second tournament here. The staff is amazing! They worked hard to ensure neither tournament players nor customers waited long. They were clear with the rules, up front, even after more people showed up than originally expected.
I play Lorcana almost every Friday. Happy there is a place close by and knowledgeable...
Read moreAs thankful as I am to have a store like Game Quest in my community, it’s really hard for me to give the store a more than average review. Game Quest is a top destination for TCGs like Magic, Pokemon, Yugioh, etc and their prices on sealed product are acceptable for a local store. That being said, that is about all they do well. Their video game selection is small and overpriced, even for today’s expensive video game market. They sell a lot of games with reprinted cover art, missing manuals, etc and my experience shopping for and buying video games at Game Quest has been very disappointing. They do have what seems to be a large selection of board games, table top games and supplies. What concerns me most about my experiences at Game Quest is the customer experience. Too many times have I entered the store to no greeting or hello from an employee - they just sort of look at me. Many times employees have almost acted annoyed or bothered that I came in to shop or asked for a couple packs of cards behind the counter. Also, there seems to be zero sense of urgency from employees when there is multiple people needing assistance. I have often had to wait more than a normal amount of time just to buy a single item. It is an issue that keeps me from stopping in and buying...
Read moreUpdate: they have straight up lied in their reply. It is mandated to be five rounds and their judge did indeed play in the tournament. I am unsure which person hunter was but their judge made rulings and was playing games with his “occasionally adult” shirt. The announcement that we both mentioned was made after the first round of the tournament, not prior. And well after you already announced it on Facebook - which you have since deleted. Curious. Not a good look y’all.
Held a 24 person set championship, advertised it would be 5 rounds as mandated by Ravensburger at that player count. At the start they announced they messed up their scheduling and they have another event so they have to do 4 rounds. I can’t recommend playing at this place with how they punished and disrespected their players with this bait and switch when they had the option to limit it to 16 players and keep their event to 4 rounds.
Cherry on top was numerous miscommunications, incorrectly entered scores, and logistical errors that riddled event.
Lastly, their judge was a player in the tournament which is explicitly forbidden.
Overall probably the worst run set...
