In November 2022, the love of my life proposed. Jewell took the main stone from one of his family heirlooms and set it in a more modern band. Fast forward to December 22, 2024, and my solitaire is missing—three days before Christmas. My husband was more distraught than I was, as the diamond belonged to his late grandmother. We tore the house apart, but to no avail, and left it in God's hands. Nearly a month later, our foster son found the diamond at the bottom of the shed.
I took the diamond and ring to Jewell's and explained my story, asking for help, as the ring was only 2 years and 2 months old. I wanted assurance that this ring would be built to last. I asked them to pull the original receipt, but they said they didn’t keep good records. I offered to bring in my receipt, but they informed me that oval diamonds are hard to set and often pop out—"It happens." They were not warm, and it felt as if my customer satisfaction didn’t matter since we weren’t high-dollar customers. They said they would call the next day after the jeweler looked at the ring and would also do an appraisal.
They didn’t call the next day, or the day after that, or even the following day. Four days later, I called to follow up. They said the repair would be $200, and that their jewelry comes with a one-year warranty. They took no responsibility for the possibility that the family heirloom could have been lost forever. They showed no empathy and never considered that their workmanship might be the problem. Instead, they seemed to suggest that I had wear and tear on my daily-worn engagement ring.
In comparison, this diamond was set in a solitaire band from the 1950s that had withstood the test of time until Jewels reset it in 2022. We no longer have confidence in Jewels' craftsmanship. Oh, and when we picked it up today, there was no appraisal. My husband and I won’t be returning, and we would not recommend...

Read moreMy partner brought my vintage coral brooch into Jewells for repair two weeks ago. Jewells has one of the only laser repair machines in the area, and the piece needed special work to reattach one coral bead to the pin. A few days ago, I went to pick up the pin and wore a mask, as so many of us do to protect our families and community as Covid surges in Roanoke. The woman behind the counter was not pleased with my mask. "I can't hear you with that thing on your face." She was surprisingly rude, and I was incredibly disappointed. I didn't even get the chance to look around the store. Why spend money at a place that is so unwelcoming to new customers? I am giving three stars, because, while the customer service was abysmal, the repair was beautifully done and reasonable-ish at $40 for delicate work. I will not...
