Went for the "pig em out" buffet early on Easter when it was not overly crowded. Everything on the salad bar and hot food bar was fresh, and the service was excellent. The food quality was fair and filling. If you're looking for gourmet dining, this is not the place to dine, but for great salad selections, comfort foods (mac. & cheese, green beans with bacon, boiled seasoned cabbage) and country dishes (pinto beans & cornbread, stewed tomatoes) this is the place to come. I especially like the chicken, tuna and seafood salads, and fresh fruit selection. You can make your own taco or enjoy fried potato skins. The yeast rolls brought to the table were very fresh, hot, and delicious, especially with the sweet butter supplied. There were also some fair, fresh made and commercial desserts (cakes, cookies, pudding), good potato toppings (sour cream, cheese, steamed broccoli etc) and chilli or soup. The restaurant supplied gloves to wear as you served yourself. As we were leaving, the dining room was filling up fast. As it was Easter, our bill came with surprise chocolates! The price is fair for the quantity, with fair quality, and a great family place.
5/5/22 Had the lunch buffet, and it was fresh and delicious as usual. The service was good and the wait staff were smiling and helpful. This place is fast becoming one of the most economical places to lunch in the area. The Weiner Stand combo is now $8.99, so here you get more nutritional and delicious food, all u care to eat, for almost the same price. Really enjoyed the pinto beans and cornbread today...can't beat the freshness, variety, and price for lunch!
5/8/22 Back for Mother's Day Lunch. We arrived a few minutes before opening at 11 a.m., and there were already about 25 people in line to get in. Everyone was orderly and did not rush entry. The many diners were seated quickly, and orders were taken. It was very busy during our entire stay, with many many in line to get in about 12:30 pm as we were leaving. I did not see any diners wearing a mask. Plastic gloves were provided at the food bar to help reduce the spread of possible viruses or bacteria. The food bar was delicious as usual, with everything fresh and hot/cold as needed. The wait staff were very busy but were efficient, and our server stopped by our table in a timely manner. The food bar was constantly filled with diners, and the cook staff kept up with the need. This is definitely the most economic restaurant in Roanoke today, with tasty dining choices on the food bar or choose a steak or potato bar. Everything is good!
4/2/23 Still good food, excellent service, and since it was Sunday, totally packed! Had to wait for others to leave to find a parking spot, but getting a table was no problem. The kitchen and staff handled the big crowd with ease, and they did not seem to be understaffed. Ate too much as usual. The rolls were too hot to touch when brought to the table. Selection of food is great!
2/5/25 Always a great place for an economical lunch, and you won't leave hungry! Arrived a little before noon, and the restaurant was packed but had immediate seating available. It was busy the entire time we dined and left over an hour later. The waitstaff were wonderful, and checked back with us regularly. The food was fresh, hot, or cold as needed, with a wide variety to choose from. Tasty lunch, fair food, great price,...
Read moreOkay so I have been to this restaurant several different times and this time really disappointed me. I was hoping for the same experiences I have had in the past but it was far from it. Now I know places get call outs, people get slammed but this was no excuses here. They had employees outside smoking throwing buds down on ground not working inside, tables were nasty and not being cleaned off several people waiting to sit but employees were either on their cell phones, outside smoking, in kitchen talking to each other even seen management team and they were just as bad. When I spoke to them there was no regards to cleaning up the areas, getting fresh food out, replacing or refunding our meal, cleaning up spills all over the place much less the floor everywhere. Customers themselves were even getting to point to clean off tables so they could sit down as employees and management just wasn't doing their jobs. The food was horribly cold and tough even when made comments about it nothing was done to fix the issue not even replace our meals or cut a deal. The buffet food was old n look like they were reusing food from several days prior. Sauces and soups things like that they watered them down like they were trying to make it threw several days with nasty food til orders came in but it tasted more like dish soap water n no flavor not even hot or fresh just disappointed big time. Even asked to have the train turned on as that was another reason I bought the kiddos there and they wouldn't even turn it on said manager had a headache was excuse that was finally given. Paid for 3 adult buffets and 2 kids buffets and nothing was ate even ordered baked potato from kitchen 2 both were extremely over cooked cold and was like rock trying to even get a taste out of it. Made comments to waiter and was told manager would come over talk to us never did, no discount on order, got food couldn't even eat it neither did the kids and they were upset more about the messy floor and the train not running and their food cold too that nobody ate more then a tablespoon of anything it was bad. I even asked for my ticket when we left and paid and gal said oh sorry I ripped it and threw it away asked for a reprint and was told she didn't know how to do that. I probably won't make the almost 2hr trip one way again to this restaurant and pray they get their priorities straight so if we do go again one day it is a great experience. So sad and places wonder why they start going down n out of business this is how it always starts, im just glad we didn't even eat enough to get food poisoning or sick from there just upset paid for so much n we didn't get to eat anything and nobody was wanting to come talk to use or make things...
Read moreWe usually eat in and are generally pleased with the food and service; however, this evening’s experience has changed our opinions on the 611 as a consideration for a future lunch/dinner destination.
Our to-go order was three meals; two with salad bar. After paying the cashier, we were handed 2 each of 8”x5”x2” one compartment, Styrofoam containers and Styrofoam 8oz? cups (for soup?) to get our salad. I asked the cashier if I could get a separate container for the hot food so my salad wouldn’t wilt and the cashier said I had to use the container(s) she gave me for everything I wanted from the 4 (salad, hot food, soup and potato, and dessert bars), food bars. When we persisted, she asked the manager if we could buy another container and he said we could get one for $3.99 each – which is the charge for another “salad w/meal”.
I understand they have problems with people loading up to-go containers after eating inside to carry “extra” food home, but that was not the intent behind requesting another container. We were charged the same price we would’ve been charged had we eaten there. When we eat there, we get our cold salads on one plate, our hot foods on a separate plate, and fruit and desserts on a third plate. How can they expect you to combine ingredients from each of their four bars into one, 5”x8”X2” one-compartment container?! To make matters worse, the cashier didn’t want to give us a condiment cup for butter from the potato bar for our baked potatoes. She said I could use the prepackaged butter that’s included in the take out bag. A member of the wait staff had to make multiple requests before the cashier would hand us one. I guess they expected us to also include a glob of butter in our salad containers. Absurd!
If they want to limit the amount of variety you can fit into an 8”x5”x2” container from their 4 bars, then they should charge less for carry out “limited” salad w/meals. It is NOT unreasonable to want to separate cold from hot temperature foods, especially when closing them up and transporting them some distance before you can sit...
