Pizza and salad were fair to good, but atmosphere was not. The music was loud but muffled, and the high ceilings did not help with acoustics, making table conversation mostly impossible. The worst offence was the absolutely FREEZING dining room! Yes, it was in the upper 90s outside, but others in my party and myself went to our vehicles to bring in sweaters! One could feel the cold air moving from blowers high in the ceiling. I'm sure this is great for those at the fire oven, but not for diners.
I ordered 1/2 pizza with fresh fruit salad. The salad was fresh tasting, but only had a drizzle of balsamic dressing, making the last part of the salad pure greens that were bitter and dry. The pizza toppings were tasty and it was fun to have all the toppings in front of you to choose from, but my pizza had black spots on the bottom of the crust, and the charcoal taste overcame the topping flavors every few bites. The best part of the meal was the wonderful balance of sweet and sour in the blood orange lemonade, making it a full flavored and refreshing beverage.
The associate who took my order had to leave the station on several occasions to get needed ingredients, refill the fruit container and to get squeeze bottles of dressing. While this associate was gone, a phone-in order taken by another associate and was placed before mine in the line, making my order distanced from those in my party. They kept wondering where I was as they waited at the table, and I waited...
Read moreGreat pizza. Great staff. Rude manager. *Update- 2 days later the manager reached out to me to candidly apologize and admit that he handled the situation poorly. This speaks to his character and for that I will return the two stars!
I was given the wrong pizza and when I brought it back to the counter, the pizza that should have been mine was also brought back with a piece bitten. They were trying to decide what went on it to remake it. I stood there trying to tell them what was on it while the manager yelled my name as I stood stood literally inches in front of him. When I tried to explain he yelled “IT HAS A PIECE BITTEN OUT WE HAVE TO RE MAKE IT!” I explained that I understood and tried to laugh it off saying that they couldn’t just know that it had two sauces on it. He then proceeded to yell at me what he perceived to be on it- which was not correct. The employee holding the one bite missing pizza walked around him to ask what I was trying to say and politely repeated it and remade the pizza. The sweet employee cleaning tables offers me a free dessert and I asked for a free apology from the manager along with my s’more- neither of which I received. Fifteen minutes go by and the pizza comes out of the oven and the manager yells “TAKE THIS TO 8. SHE IS MAD.” across the building. Also the incorrect pizza I returned to the employees was simply walked to the correct customer after being given to me instead of...
Read moreTweeks Hometown Food Review: Blaze Pizza in Roanoke.. not bad! Whoever had the idea for a fast food like, custom built (subway-ish assembly line), artisan-inspired, flame fired pizza is a genius. All fresh ingredients using preconfigured classic combinations, plus Cali-style, along with keto and cauliflower dough options (for $4 extra (!!)).. all come together, combined with a super fast (5 minute) bake time and at the table service that is very impressive. All pizzas come in an 11" (large personal pie) sized pie that's pretty filling for one hungry guy.
I had the Red Vine pie (plus garlic & bacon) that was pretty yummy.. my son had a custom sausage, mushroom, onion, roasted garlic that was outstanding. I highly recommend adding their fresh basil and their roasted garlic to anything you get here. I love that they don't charge you for additional toppings! I guess at $10.45 per personal size pie, they can afford to give away some toppings.
Good joint.. it's affordable (and better than any other fast food, or subway).. and the kids love...
