I am unsure just how to rate my most recent experience at Men's Warehouse, Roanoke. Honestly, if I could give this experience zero stars, I would. I have purchased several suits from MW in the past with excellent results but today was likely my last time. My daughter's wedding is in June. The groom's father and I went in to purchase the same suit. We were assisted by Dexter. It took about five minutes to gain an understanding that Dexter knew very little about selling or fitting a suit. He could not answer the simplest of questions and it was pretty obvious that he was on a mission to sell a custom made suit. I asked, what's the difference in one off the rack and why should I want to spend about 50% more. His answers were gibberish. Another MW employee nearby overheard the challenge that Dexter was having and stepped in to help. He said the custom suit's material was much nicer and sharper. He said it snapped back much better after each use compared to the suit we were looking to buy. He also indicated that a custom suit would always fit better. After all, it is custom, he said. He also said that any future alterations would be completed at no additional charge. We both decided to wait and come back in a day or two. We decided to wait and as we left the store, we agreed to purchase the custom suit and joked that we needed to come back on Dexter's day off. I went back the following week and unfortunately, Dexter was there. He took a few, and I do mean a few, measurements. He basically asked me to try on a few jackets and pants, made a few notes, asked how we wanted to the pants hemmed and said he would call us in 3-4 weeks. I went to pick up about three weeks later and the jacket was at least one inch from being able to button and the rise in the pants couldn't have gotten much shorter. The MW staff thought it looked pretty good. What? The excuses were terrible and they told me that a custom suits at MW was cheaper than anywhere else. I was quite upset and that was the absolute last thing I wanted to hear. Manager Tabitha promised they would make it right or order another suit. I went back today, and although things were better, I am still very disappointed with what I received. It is not what I expected from a custom suit. The rise was still too short and the lapel had not been pressed. Corey and Lin were helpful and professional. They worked hard to get it ready for me today as I have over an hour drive each way to pick up the suit. I think they did their best. The suit still has a gather between the shoulders and the lapels pull just a little when the jacket is buttoned. The custom liner they make a big deal about when you are buying the suits now has a two inch separation where they let out the jacket. You can still see the very unfinished area in the back where they let the seem out. As for future alterations, they have nothing to work with unless I get smaller. I would suggest you avoid Dexter and take your chances with something off the rack. I'm...
Read moreThis was a four-star review until I actually got my suit back from tailoring.
I came in a few weeks ago to purchase a new suit. The salesperson was friendly and helped back out something reasonable. The selection was decent enough. I'm an odd size (not big but tall, for which there are, sadly, no specific stores), and they had a few suits that fit well enough. Further, they can order certain suits in certain sizes.
That good stuff ends there. Like usual, I tried on the suit, and the salesperson marked it up for tailoring. Nothing unusual there. Then we get to the payment and--wait, I have to pay for tailoring?
That's right: You have to pay for tailoring. Men's Warehouse is just about the only men's store that charges for tailoring. Every department store or men's store at which I've bought a suit? Free? Of course it's free. Very few men fit into a rack suit and have it look good. Very few. That's why any respectable men's store or department store will tailor a suit gratis.
But that only gets them to four stars, rather than five. The salesperson decided that the left sleeve needed to be let down a bit to make it even. Fine. I'll pay the $12.
I come back two weeks later on the prescribed date--they tailor about as fast as dial-up AOL. I try on the suit. The left sleeve? It's longer than the right sleeve. That's right: the sleeve that the salesperson let down is now too long. Okay, fine, we get the right sleeve taken out a touch, and we're all good, right?
They want to charge me for it.
That's right. The salesperson screwed the pooch on the length, and I'm the one who gets to bear the burden.
But, the salesperson tells me, they're guaranteed for life! You know, that's great and all, but when I can't trust you to actually tailor something properly, that's an empty promise.
So, I'm going to spend a bit more and have my usual tailor work on the jacket. I trust her more than I trust these fools.
Get your...
Read moreI will never shop at Menâs Wearhouse again. I used Menâs wearhouse for my wedding. I tried on a SLIM fit suit for me and the pants for my guys. When it came time to order my suit, the one I had tried on was very large. I was assured that the suit would be tailored to âthe perfect fit.â So I had it ordered in February. I picked the suit up in the beginning of March and the suit was HUGE! The suit gave me no form, what-so-ever. I was assured by the tailor and the employee that it was suppose to look this way. Frustrated I walked out of the store. My mother, friends, and fiancĂ© all said the suit looked horrible. So, not wanting to deal with the same people that assured me it looked good, I took it to the Lynchburg store. The store manager of Lynchburg agreed that it looked horrible and assured me it would be fixed. She marked the suit to get it altered a second time, and charged me $122 for the alterations. Two of my groomsmen had to have their pants altered a second time as well, and one of my groomsmen took his pants to a private tailor. Frustrated, because I was guaranteed a perfect fit, I left the store. I called customer service 3 times to complain about being charged. I was told that the tailors do not work for menâs wearhouse and that the money would probably not be refunded. I was confused because I had been guaranteed the perfect fit the first time, and now Iâm having to pay the Lynchburg store to send my suit to the same tailor at this Roanoke store to fix the initial errors. I have still not received a call back in regards to my refund, three weeks later. When I received my suit the second time, it was still too large. However, it was two days before my wedding so I was unable to fix the issue. I would advise to not come to menâs wearhouse if you plan on purchasing a suit. The âperfect fitâ is nothing...
