Got an engagement ring (family heirloom with multiple different diamonds) “appraised” with the employees stating the ring was valued at retail for 600$. Interesting. We went to multiple different jewelers who individually determined the value to be 8-10k. They also determined the cut of the main diamond to be European. Went back to Haig’s and worker who gave us the original appraisal scribbled out her original handwriting where she confidently said the diamond was a round brilliant cut. No confirmation just scratched it out. We asked them for the VALUE of the ring not what they’d buy it for. Didn’t get the colors right, didn’t get the quality right, took 15 minutes and couldn’t tell the cuts of the diamonds, while the other jewelers did the entire process for free and took far less time. And we paid 50$ for this “service” where even the cleaning was less than the other places. To say I believe a refund is in order is the least. This experience was disheartening and embarrassing. Unfortunately we can confidently say we will not be back and can only hope other customers stay weary of their ridiculous markups and inaccurate...
Read moreWe took pieces in for repairs, sizing, new setting & new design. After 4 months, he delivered extremely poor quality craftsmanship - 4 of 6 tasks were unacceptable. 60 more days were required - owner handled 3 fixes on several pieces (lost in-house jeweler). "Final" delivery STILL contained flaws on 2 rings. The main stone of my wife's wedding ring was loose in the new $700 custom platinum setting - even after the owner's personal fix (4th & last) of adding a spring below the stone. Inlay work on another ring was comprised from his bending/soldering process to size smaller (3rd fix), SS separators fell out 3 days later. The fixes were no charge, however, the alarming experience (Oct 2021 - Apr 2022) confirms they are no longer the jeweler of times past, but an antique...
Read moreMost jewelry stores do not have a Gemologist present, but Haig’s of Rochester, does! Paul R Haig. When I shop there, I know without a shadow of a doubt, that any purchase is The Real Thing!! Repairs are expertly done, if a gem stone needs replacement, he’ll see if he happens to have a perfect match, and if he didn’t have that match, he’d be honest, and would wait until he found it!! In my case, finding a blue sapphire that would match the four others in my ring, he told me it could take quite awhile...perhaps a year. He didn’t want a close match, but wanted a perfect match! Waiting, in this particular case, took nearly a year, but, well worth it. That ring is now a beautiful heirloom to pass on to my daughter and, on to one of her girls!! Thank...
