I have been shopping at the academy on Cross Point Dr. in Rock hill, SC for years and have always had a very positive experience until today. I was visiting the store on my hour lunch break looking for camping supplies for an upcoming lake trip. I had been looking for a cot but wasn't sure I'd buy one because I didn't think they made a cot for two and I don't have the space for two side by side. I was super excited to see Magellan made a double cot and it was on sale. The tag read originally 89.99 on clearance for 23 dollars! The original tag (the sale sticker was on) read 89.99 double cot and there were a few of the same double cot in the space but for some reason the tag was ringing up wrong. I requested assistance and a gentleman came over to check it out. He went back an fourth stating it was the single cot next to it but the original price on that one was 69.99 so that couldn't be right. He then continued to look around and told me "don't go anywhere"...mind you I was running out of time because again, I was on my lunch break. I said all the double cots are here behind the sticker that says 23 dollars and there are no other double cots for 89.99. He then proceeds to tell me an employee must've put the wrong sticker on the tag and I could not have it at the 23 dollar clearance price clearly marked. I was a little frustrated because he wasted my time only to argue with me and tell me it was an error on the stores end. I would've understood had it been one cot put in the wrong location however, that was not the case. The tag for the item I wanted was marked incorrectly so I feel I should have gotten the cot at the price advertised as it was an error on their end not mine. I wouldn't normally complain as I've always had a good experience but I felt this should be brought to someone's attention as I'm sure this is not your policy...mind you I emailed this to their customer support team 8/9 and have yet to...
Read moreMy main complaint with Academy is their firearms department. IT SUCKS!!!!!! Don't go their expecting to bring your gun home with you. I'm a firearm aficionado. I'm a competitive shooter, an NRA certified firearm instructor, and I've NEVER even had a speeding ticket in my life. I mean, NO, ZERO CRIMINAL RECORD. Every single time I have attempted to purchase a handgun from them, because honestly their prices are decent. Not the best by far, but they always have the gun you want in stock. I finally figured out why that is. I have NEVER PASSED A NICS CHECK AT ACADEMY!!! I found out, a lot of people don't. I go to one of my favorite gun stores and I'm walking out with my firearm in minutes. It's absurd. I did the math from the 1st time I was turned away to the last firearm purchase I made. I spend $32,648 IN FIREARMS ALONE!!! That does not include ammo, optics, or other accessories. Now to be fair 25k was spent on a Top of the line Barrett .50 cal BMG!!! Other than that, Academy sports is a GREAT store. Awesome prices on ammunition if they have it, but ammo shortages are EVERWHERE now. So, not their fault. Regardless, they NEVER price gouge. Hats off to you Academy for that. They also have, I think, every type, style, and brand name of shoe you could ever want as a man. It's unreal. And their prices are unbelievable. The absolute lowest I've ever seen ANYWHERE!!! Give Academy a shot. You won't be sorry, unless you're going to buy that Walther or S&W you've had your eye on...
Read moreSo, today I visited the store to get a birthday gifts for my uncle. I shopped for about 20 minutes to purchase a fishing rod and tackle box when I got to the register I realized I didn’t have my wallet. I then asked the cashier if I could run back to my car and get my wallet. In a very nasty and abrupt tone, she dismissively looked at me and told me “yeah you can get it but you’re gonna need to get back in line.” I proceeded to ask her again because I was shocked at her demeanor and tone and she said “get back in line” with no eye contact pointing at the line. Rather than argue with this disgusting individual (Erica) I went back to my car got my wallet and came back in. I got the items and got back in line. The gentlemen (Kyle) who rang me up was polite and kind. So I asked what the protocol was if a customer leaves their wallet in the car. He thought that my wallet was in the car and told be to run back out to get it and he would wait to finish the transaction. I exampled t my precious encounter with his coworker and that I needed to speak with a manager. The logistics manager Michael Smith explained that she could have waited. She clearly chose not to and lacks customer service skills I stated. I pray Academy Sports and its management has a conversation with this unprofessional women who clearly has no people skills and is definitely not an effective communicator. My hat goes off to Kyle, as he seems to understand what patience and quality customer...
