Every now and then, one happens upon a local business that is a true gem (pun intended). This jewelry store is owned by the remarkable Aras, who has superb talent as a jewelry designer and repair technician. The staff is always welcoming and responsive. Along with always being able to repair anything that we've brought into the store, or just replacing a watch battery, there is a lovely selection of items for sale. Most remarkable, he can design anything that comes to mind, including producing a ring, for example, that looks every bit like something you'd see at the most expensive stores at half the price.

He is also a talker when he has the time and will give you advice or feedback about shopping for jewelry or if you need a repair. They've been in business for decades and their success is a testament to their dedication and expertise. Please give them your business. In researching places in Rockville to restring beads, this store came up. I had purchased (for $18) at a popular “antiques” mall near Charlottesville, a necklace with beautiful dark blue beads. I knew they weren’t valuable, but I loved them!

Whether the gentleman who owns this store was angry, or not, he came across as angry, telling me to take it back to the dealer. At a huge mall like that, who knew the dealer? And to me, that was beside the point.

As I was leaving, the woman who does the restringing was coming across the parking lot, and she calmed the waters by saying she would take it on. And she did. I picked it up today and it’s beautiful. She saved the day.
