If I could give this place 0 stars I would. After the first 8 hours of me bringing home my newborn son, he was having breathing problems. Breathing problems that we pointed out to the nurses after he was born and they acted like he was fine. He would wake up gasping for air. We took him back to Mercy to the ER there. After waiting hours, the ER doc came in, rushed through seeing our son, told us it was normal and sent us home. The problems persisted so we trusted our gut and took him to Northwest Children’s hospital. They agreed something was wrong and sent us to the NICU at Washington Regional where they actually acted like they cared and ran tests on him. They were able to track his oxygen dropping while he was sleeping and monitored him 24/7 for several days until he stopped having the breathing episodes. If we had not trusted our gut and listened to the sad excuse of an ER doctor at Mercy, our son legitimately could have died at home. On top of all of that, this hospital will do everything they can to pressure you into getting extra vaccines, vitamin shots, etc even if you make it clear that you don’t want them. They also rush the entire postpartum process and come in and wake your baby up frequently for random tests or checks. The food there is also terrible. At Mercy you are treated like cattle being herded through the slaughter house. I will never go back here for any medical care. Especially not the birth of one of my children. Do yourselves a favor and go to Willow Creek where you are actually treated like a human being.

Hands down one of the best experiences in an ER. The staff was efficient, careful, diligent, attentive and ALL have the patience of Gandhi. I came in wild with pain and they remained calm, didnt raise their voice and kept me as collected as possible during my treatment. Special shout out to two folks: Dr Malik Shahid M.D.-just am amazing doctor with lazer focus and the ability to find comfort where I thought I had none-thank you so very much for your amazing work. And Miss Meggan. She took the time to hold my hand and help me focus through the trauma by keeping me distracted. This was the worst trauma I had experienced but I wouldnt have asked for a better facility to present my care. Thank you all for your kindness, patience, and hard work.

Hands down THE worst experience we have ever encountered at any hospital. We’ve been waiting for over 3 hours just to to be called back to be seen. After inquiring with the nurses up front, my husband was responded to very rudely. Now we feel trapped here knowing they’ve already billed insurance. It’s no wonder this place is constantly flying patients in to Joplin. This is the absolute worst place on earth for any kind of care it seems. I wanted to give it zero stars but was forced to leave one just so I could write this review. Never again.

Zero stars. Besides the fact that someone else's blood was all over my husband's private room floor...I have much to say. to Mercy Hospital: I'd also like to say that I am a nurse as well as my mother in law, and both of us arrived at this emergency room after my husband was transported by ambulance from almost falling off of a 3 story scaffolding at work due to having a heart attack. The care, or lack of I should say, was HORRIFIC. I am SO absolutely DISGUSTED with what happened. My husband HAD A HEART ATTACK and he was DISCHARGED with chest pain and a heart rate in the FORTIES. The PA felt that because he "did not have symptoms", that he was ok with discharging him. All three of us told the PA and the nurses MULTIPLE times that he was actively HAVING SYMPTOMS at THAT present time. It kept getting waved away like it was unimportant. His EKG in the ambulance showed he did in fact have a cardiac episode at work and continued with EMS present. I have printouts and many professional opinions in agreement with what is shown by EMS reports and YOUR OWN LABS. He did register as having elevated troponin levels on lab results, but instead of testing for a third test(like every other facility is known to do) he was DISCHARGED. We relayed important sibling and close family cardiac history and it was ignored. I have never seen a facility discount something so incredibly important and obvious. I also read the notes and there are lies of what took place. We did NOT feel comfortable with him being discharged like stated, but when it was obvious the PA didn't know what he was talking about, refused to answer specific questions and lab numbers, and kept saying all was good despite me saying that things were NOT, we ceased with questions. When we witnessed the negligence and lack of concern, we realized he was safer elsewhere. Not one doctor laid a hand on him. The PA did not lay a hand on him. Apparently, this facility does not care or does not have a clue of what on earth they are doing??? All emergent and followup care elsewhere has baffled everyone on why my husband was discharged, and everyone agrees that this hospital was very negligent and he should have never been discharged. My husband does indeed have lasting physical, and might I add emotional damage as well from what happened, and we feel the damage that he has sustained could have possibly been prevented if proper care was given. Unfortunately, we don't know what his future looks like at this point regarding his health, and I feel that this hospital has a huge part in that. Thank GOD for the paramedics who saved his life, unfortunately this hospital may have caused further damage and I absolutely won't be forgetting that any time soon. I will warn every healthcare worker of how this facility operates and we have told everyone we know not to send your loved ones to Mercy. As a healthcare professional, I know what being overwhelmed and short staffed looks like, BUT I also know what lack of care and ignorance looks like. I feel that this ER did not want to help someone that truly was depending on THEM when they were in a life or death situation. I feel extremely disappointed in myself that I chose THIS hospital when I was asked where to send him during one of the worst calls of my life. I was TRUSTING the staff of this facility to give my husband proper care when I was desperately praying and trying to get to him and I was BEYOND let down. If my husband had not been surrounded by a family of ER, ICU, and rehab nurses after being told he was ok, I do not feel that he would still be with us today.

To everyone else: I am begging you to choose somewhere else to take yourself or your loved ones. God only knows who all has gone home from this hospital being told they were ok only to later die that night. YOU are your own best advocate. Don't be pushed aside because of ignorance, laziness, or the fact that someone hates their job or is...

I took a dear friend into this location. She’s had chronic abdominal pain since May along with nausea, vomiting, significant bloating(described as carrying a basketball), constant headaches, overly exhausted, has to catch her breath from walking across the room and most recently radiating pain down to her toes like pins and needles and her legs going numb. She has not been herself and most days is not able to stand for longer than 5 minutes. This has been debilitating and her quality of life has declined so significantly.

After her symptoms became more significant, I suggested we go into Mercy and see if they would give her the time of day after her PCP suggested another ER visit in hopes she would be able to get an MRI which is the last test she has yet to have.

After checking into the ER we were met with a physicians assistant who already was dismissive about her symptoms and what the ED would actually do, basically because she wasn’t bleeding out. After running her blood, he came back saying a specific panel showed elevated lipase levels indicating she had pancreatitis. We were ecstatic that we had some kind of answer compared to her previous visits. She continued to have the CT and ultrasound. The PA was thinking they would show something in her gallbladder (family history of needing removal in the mid-20’s). Before we even got the results back he told us she would be admitted overnight and she would be on a no food/drink diet for 12 hours then slowly be introduced with a clear liquid diet. Again, although we still didn’t have a concrete answer we had atleast more than what anyone else has given her. We get moved upstairs and upon getting settled in we have the nurses and doctor tell us she doesn’t have pancreatitis at all. They immediately give her fluids and we are back to square one. I then start to plead and beg the doctor in an attempt to advocate for my friend to have an MRI performed to at least exclude anything that would be missed by the CT and ultrasound(because ya know…they are all machines and are not 100%). Again, we even doubled checked with insurance on coverage for an MRI because that was the first thing out of everyone’s mouth(that more than likely it wasn’t covered at all) and only a pre-approval is needed and they cover 50%. I’m finally able to convince her to write the order for an MRI, she even adds a GI consult which we were elated to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I go ahead and leave her at the hospital to put my kiddos to bed after being told she was on the list but may not get it until the next day, which she was completely fine with. I get a call not even 2 hours later from her crying, saying she is no longer on the list. I drive back up there to find out why, only to be told the radiologist felt it wasn’t “medically necessary to be performed in-patient, but she could get an outpatient appointment for it…” I immediately asked to speak to someone in charge. Which was a floor supervisor, after I explained what was going on he reviewed her charts and was also confused why it would be denied by the radiologist for not being medically necessary but then suggesting to it outpatient. We were told it would be reviewed in the morning since it was almost 10pm at this point and hopefully it would still be done in the morning. Morning comes and goes, she sees no doctors the entire time, only nurses who come in every 2 hours at best unless she calls them for an update. Finally at 2pm she has the GI consult that she has been deprived food for since the same time the day prior to only be told by them “oh it could be a number of things…” she’s finally discharged after that around 4pm. She’s back to feeling completely exhausted and defeated. I highly advise to avoid this ER unless you are...

I would give them 0 stars if I could. My wife had an ectopic pregnancy that required emergency surgery. She was treated horribly in the ER, with one lab tech saying her positive pregnancy test was probably a false positive. Wouldn't listen acted like she was lying when she said she was in really bad pain. Are you freaking kidding me. She was ectopic. It was only when they saw the ultrasound that they changed their tone. Didn't even apologize for treating her horribly. Then came surgery. That went well, and credit goes to Dr. Smith for a perfect surgery and wonderful bedside manner. The doc that took care of her next day was an old guy, with horrible bedside manner, who treated her terribly. Didn't want to even give her any pain meds less than 24 hrs after SURGERY. Another are you kidding me moment. Kudos to the charge nurse for acting in the best interests of her patient and changing the doctors mind.

To compound the problem, Mercy Billing and financial assistance have given us over a years worth of headaches. We got hit with an over 2k medical bill after insurance. This was put on top of bills from them that I have and my son has. We applied immediately for assistance, as I had just lost a job and my other one cut hours. They denied our application for assistance. We appealed. They told us to get medicaid (said we were denied because we don't have it). We aren't eligible for medicaid since we have insurance thru my wife's work. They would know this if they actually just looked at our file. It's clear as day. We called and the customer service rep said they should have approved us based on our information, that their FA dept made a mistake, and told us to reapply. We did, and clarified in the letter that we get insurance thru her work, aren't eligible for medicaid, and we should have been approved the first time if this is indeed an error on their end. They agreed, after more stupid document requests, some of which were already included in what we had already sent them. This has taken over a year of many back and forth calls and multiple documents mailed. We finally got our approval. You would think this would be the end of it, but no. They didn't cover the accounts we applied for help for, said it was too far back, even though all these "delays" are on them.

They screwed up, admit to it, and suspiciously backdated to right after my wife's emergency surgery, my bills, and my son's bills, so that we still have to pay thousands of dollars without the ability to lower our monthly payments, merge accounts, or anything that would actually help. They also forward dated partial assistance to later this year. Our application for assistance at children's, also over a year ago, was approved 2 weeks after applying. No problems. There is no excuse other than the obvious ones.

Sure seems to me like they actually are using their "Assistance Program" as a tool to make more money, not help those in need as it is supposedly intended. Sure seems to me @IRS should look into their non profit status. Was what they did illegal? IDK. Unethical? Absolutely. I would expect a christian organization to do better. One thing you can guarantee, if they did it to us, it's probably something they...
