Let me start by saying I LOVE Bon Chon, and I’ve visited many of their locations. I was really excited when I heard Bon Chon was coming to NWA, and I even went on opening day!
However, after two visits since they opened, I’ve been really disappointed. The restaurant is extremely small, with only a few tables inside. Every time I’ve gone, the tables are full, and we end up waiting for a seat, which is pretty frustrating. I’ve never seen a Bon Chon location this cramped.
As for the food, the chicken and seasoned fries are good, for the most part. However, the chicken legs they serve are much larger than what I’ve seen at other Bon Chon locations. While it might seem like a good thing at first, it’s a problem because the main appeal of Bon Chon is the crispy skin and the sauce on the chicken. With the giant chicken legs, you get less crispy skin and sauce coverage, which feels like a big miss. I’m not sure why this location deviated from the usual size — I assumed Bon Chon’s standards would be more consistent.
In terms of service, my first visit was frustrating. I waited nearly 40 minutes for my food. On my second visit, they were out of rice (how does a restaurant run out of rice?!). Then, when I ordered chicken and fries, they upgraded it to a combo without asking, claiming I’d get a free drink and it wouldn’t cost extra (even though I specifically asked for water). Turns out, adding the drink actually costs $1.55 extra, which they didn’t tell me upfront. When I went to get a refund, I had to explain their own menu pricing — how $9.99 + $4.99 doesn’t equal $16.53 (before tax). This isn’t complicated math.
I really want to give them 1 star, but I’m giving them 2 stars because I hope they improve. I really can’t express how disappointed I am that this is what we’re getting from Bon Chon.
One final point, they share parking with a lot of other businesses, but one of those businesses has a drive through that gets backed up all of the way to the entrance of the parking lot. It makes parking unnecessarily frustrating, and I'm shocked quite frankly that they are even allowed to do it. After eating lunch, I couldnt get out of my parking spot for close to 10 minutes because the drive through line blocked me into my...
Read moreI’d heard about this place recently and have always wondered about Korean corn dogs. I finally decided to check it out…and WOW, it did NOT disappoint. I think we got lucky with a lull in business and had no line.
The food took a little time to come out, but honestly, you can tell they make everything fresh because it was incredible. I got the half and half mixed wings (half KBBQ, half soy garlic), MoPo dogs, street corn, and bulgogi fries. Every single thing was bursting with flavor. Where has this kind of chicken been my whole life? I wish I had taken pictures for this review but didn’t think about writing it until after I ate because we loved the food so much!
The wings were next-level…big, juicy, bone-in pieces with a perfectly crunchy coating. The dogs were super crispy and cheesy (that amazing cheese pull made me feel like I was in a commercial!!). The street corn was delicious, and I was blown away by the bulgogi fries, which I was most skeptical about. Next time, I’m definitely going for the bulgogi tteokbokki instead…tried to make tteokbokki once and I didn’t do very well but have always wanted to try it. I know it’s going to be amazing.
Ok, the criticism I have is that I wish they had more variety of the sampler packs. There were more options than we expected and weren’t quite sure how to combine things because we have just discovered Korean food accidentally when we went to Dallas. Guess we’ll have to try some more new stuff next time, with an eye on those donuts and the noodles that I saw some one else get.
Great price/value trade off…and I probably would have paid more because they were all so nice. Can’t wait...
Read moreReally inconsistent, which I’ll give a bit of grace on since they haven’t been open long, but for the price and the wait time we were disappointed. We live close, but this will not be in our regular rotation for food options and it will be awhile before we return to give it another try.
Had take out twice from here. The first time was pretty good and it was for a later lunch. The veggie potsticker filling was a bit dry. My dad’s chicken Katsu was sadly missing the toppings, but the portion was huge on that. My fried rice with bulgogi was tasty, but much smaller portion than I expected for the price. My husband got the Bulgogi stir fry udon, which he liked and was excited about because he enjoys udon.
Second time was for dinner tonight and they were busy. The food was pretty unenjoyable other than the pork potstickers. I got the fried rice with bulgogi again, which was an even smaller portion than the first time and hardly had any red peppers, but it had a bunch of burnt black bits in it see pictures. Then my husband got the bulgogi stir fry udon again, but it was pretty spicy and he kinda struggled through eating it compared to the first time. It’s worth noting that he was not asked what spice level he wanted either time he got it. Had we eaten in the restaurant we would have said something, but since it was take away it wasn’t worth the hassle to go back and wait...
