Extra Space Storage — Local services in Rohnert Park

You will notice that I only do 5 star and positive reviews and that I take this process quite sincerely. My reviews on Google have been viewed over 75,000 times. It seems better to simply ignore companies that do poor work. However, in this case, I have to warn customers that Extra Space Storage is a place to avoid. We found out months into our contract that the climate control in the building was not working. During the very hot summer of 2018. Hundreds of customers were not alerted to this fact. And when we spoke to the front office they finally admitted to us that it had not been working and that they were going to get it fixed. We checked in with them a month later. Still not fixed. We finally talked to the manager (Brian?) who was very defensive. The woman who works the front desk - Pam- had the gall to accuse us of lying. When we requested compensation for having had our property and a non climate controlled environment while being charge for a climate controlled price they offered us $25. Which was a joke. What about the hundreds of customers whose property was damaged and jeopardized by this lack of integrity and this lack of transparency? Apparently Extra Space Storage doesn't operate with business values and ethics. Maybe corporate should take a look into the management practices in the Rohnert Park location.

My partner was exhausted from work and did not have the energy to go and rent a truck and remove everything and find another storage facility. She is an overworked special education teacher for young kids, and I'm a disabled Marine corps veteran with a lot of back problems who can't do the physical stuff he used to do. So we dealt with it. When it was time to move out she contacted the office to make arrangements. We are going to have movers and u-haul pods. The manager was rude to her. Down-right rude. Perhaps he doesn't respect women. Perhaps he shouldn't be managing a business and dealing with customers.

Please find another place to store your property. These people are liars. They do not treat customers with respect. They don't treat women with respect. They do not have business values, and are not able or willing provide quality customer service.

Mark and Jean-marie are absolute rays of sunshine. Huge shoutout to them for all their help during our moves.

I had moved out of SF in a rush, and 2-years later, remotely hired movers to move out our stuff from the storage unit. Mark and Jean-marie were super communicative, pleasant, and on-top of things. I've never worked with friendlier people throughout any move.

As a side note, I was very skeptical of Extra Space Storage (and any storage unit company) in general because the whole concept seems ripe for exploitation. Like, once they take your stuff (at a promo rate $), they can then jack up the prices to whatever they want, right? High switching costs for the consumer and all.

But it didn't happen! The rate increases were very gradual and reasonable. We started off at a very promotional price of $219/mth (for a 10x20"), which was over 50% less than competition, and it slowly went up to $319 a year later, and ~$400 a year after that. It was super reasonable, and they delivered exactly on what they promised.

In an era where every company seems to be trying to screw you over, bait-and-switch, nickle-and-dime you, and just generally trying to weasel out of doing literally anything beyond the legal bare-minimum (and sometimes not even that, I'm looking at you Cigna) - Extra Space Storage Rohnert Park has restored some of my faith in humanity.

Huge props to you Mark and Jean-marie! Thank you for taking care of our stuff when we're thousands of miles away, and putting our minds at ease every time we called in! The work you do matters, and the world would be a better place with more folks...

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but I genuinely couldn’t let this one pass by without expressing my gratitude. I had to arrange storage during a very overwhelming and transitional moment in my life - the kind of moment where even small tasks can feel heavy. From the moment I walked into the ExtraSpace Storage office, I felt immediately more at ease thanks to Mark.

The office itself was immaculately clean and cool (a blessing on a warm day), and the atmosphere was calm and welcoming. Mark greeted me with genuine kindness and professionalism. He was patient, thorough, and incredibly helpful without ever being pushy or rushed. He explained everything clearly, answered every question I had (even the small ones), and made sure I was completely comfortable with the entire process.

It may have just been another workday for him, but for me, it meant everything to be treated with dignity and warmth at a time when my plate was overflowing. He turned what could have been a stressful task into something refreshingly simple and smooth - and I walked out of there not just with a storage unit, but with a real sense of relief.

If you’re looking for a clean, secure storage facility and to be helped by someone who actually cares, this is the place. Mark, thank you for being such a kind human and for helping me when I needed it most.

I hope that whoever is in charge (if that isn’t Mark and I sure hope it is!) sees this and knows that they are lucky to have someone interacting with the tenants of these units.
