Me and 4 others rented the Carters Charm cabin due to it being listed as pet friendly. When submitting the forms online we were honest saying we would be taking 2 dogs and figured the already $89 cleaning fee, a service fee of $59 and a occupancy fee of $61 would be plenty enough fees to cover doing a little laundry but as soon as we hit the door upon arriving home after the weekend we were thanked for our business from cozy cabins with an additional $110 pet cleaning fee. How about when I submit my form online stating I will be taking pets include that in the price instead of surprising everyone after the fact so I can decide if that’s a price I want to pay or do business elsewhere. I couldn’t believe this after having found cereal from previous guests in the couch cushions along with dust bunnies in the corners. They for sure didn’t clean the floors before we arrived my socks went from white to brown within 2 trips to the restroom. This cabin has zero insulation you can see the bottom side of the shingles through the cracks in the roof. You have the option of a electric fire place and a heat pump to heat the place which will trip the breakers at about midnight so, we actually had to turn the oven on in the middle of the night and leave it cracked for warmth because they decided to put most every electrical unit and circuit on one 20 amp breaker it seemed. After resetting the breaker multiple times all the lights in the place were flickering. I worked harder trying to stay warm in this boars nest than I do at work, talk about a ruined vacation this was the first and last time I will do business here and I will be sure to recommend all friends and relatives steer clear of this place. We paid about what most apartments cost all month for 2 days and they were still so greedy they had to request more cash within hours of departure. What a great way to sink a company. If you are ok with hypothermia and aren’t afraid of getting electrocuted and paying basically an extra mortgage payment to stay a few days this...
Read moreRenters beware! We had made a deposit to rent a cabin in early May and unfortunately when the fires broke out we were informed that we would be receiving a refund of our deposit. We waited for several days for the deposit to be refunded and finally called on June 19th to ask about the refund. We were told that the cabin was fine, the city was coming back and everything was getting back to normal. This was actually not true because we saw several different reports about ongoing efforts to contain fires and that there was a lot of flash floods. This was not safe for our family and we did not want to take the chance and travel over 500 miles only to find out that the area was not safe. I emailed on 6/27 to request that they cancel the reservation and received an email from Luisa stating I would have to pay a 6% cancellation fee. I wrote back and said that I didn't agree with that but we were going to cancel our stay. Several days went by and I emailed again on 7/2 asking for a response on when to expect the remaining balance of our deposit. Several days went by and no refund so I called and Luisa asked if I had called the travel insurance company. This was never mentioned when I cancelled. I prompltly informed her that the insurance stated that I did not have a claim since I was told the cabin was fine. This was not mentioned when I canceled. At this point, I feel that they were being very shady. We finally received a refund , not a full refund of our deposit as promised, but a partial refund on 7/15. Almost a full month from the first time we reached out. There was never an apology or explanation for the lack of communication or complete lie that we would get a full refund. My suggestion is to stay away from this company. There are plenty of other places in beautiful Ruidoso where you can rent and not have to go through so...
