So I've taken my laptop here before, and Solomon is always helpful, honest, and prices fairly. This time though, I feel like the really went above and beyond. I brought it in because it blue screened on me and was running super slow. He took a few days to look it over and basically said it had to do with an update and a corrupted file. He reinstalled the update and I thought that was that.

I took it home and decided to not stress it by running anything heavy (I have animation and video editing programs on it) so I just browsed around on YouTube. ...It blue screened twice. Within the span of oh, 12 hours? I was like ok, something is definitely still wrong here.

I called him back, explained it was still happening, and brought it back. He ran various tests, first trying to replicate the blue screening, and then trying to figure out what the problem was (he explained them all but my memory is terrible, so I may not give a lot of examples but he tried even seeing if it was the fan lol he tried like everything). He said that he looked into everything except the processor and the motherboard. Uh oh.

Now, the last time I brought it in, it was because my laptop battery wasn't charging (it still doesn't unless its been drained completely, but if it has any juice in it, my laptop just won't turn on), he told me that while it was most likely due to the motherboard, that replacing it (a $500 repair) wouldn't mean it would work like new; I believe his real quote was something like "you won't have a new laptop, you'll have a used laptop with a new motherboard" and basically said that I could replace it, but just for the charging feature? Was it really worth it? And I really appreciated that honesty.

Anyway, so knowing that changing the motherboard wouldn't be a fix-all solution, both then and now, I told him that I would use it for now and get a replacement (it's been worrying me lately anyway, and I had been thinking about getting myself a new one for a while). He said he would look at my files on this laptop and would transfer everything to a new laptop (awesome! Since I still have Maya on here, student edition, and like having it). There was actually a miscommunication and he thought I would be bringing in a new laptop within a few weeks, so he had already started preparing files (whoops), but I appreciated that he was ready to just start working on it like that.

And before I brought it back home, he told me what caused it to blue screen - the overheating/pressure on a certain area. So I've been trying to keep that area out and cool (not against my leg so it doesn't heat up or get hit) and so far it's actually been behaving - still replacing it though, but not gonna throw it out either. And when I get a new one, I'm definitely going to Ames again to get stuff transferred.

OH. Before I forget. Yeah, since there was that miscommunication and he had already started the work to get stuff transferred, he told me to hang onto the paper he gave me and to bring it in next time, and I would be charged less for completing the job (I think that was the explanation? I'm tired tbh, and don't really remember). But the idea was that it would help me save money, which I definitely appreciate lol
