I had the pleasure of meeting the owner on our first visit. Down to earth, great person. He regaled us with stories of his grandfather Manley as I was mesmerised by the place. This is a must stop on your trip to Mackinac Island or City, or the U.P., next to the Mackinac Bridge in St. Ignace. We sailed from Chicago to Mackinac and back and stopped at two fish smoke houses on our trip. We really like both. Manley's Fish Market is a wonderful strong smoke flavor. I opted for Salmon and White Fish tail, and a must, the cheese with your smoked Salmon. I eat the fish straight, I make it into a pâté or with eggs for Brian (He prefers less strong flavors or spices in his food, I prefer interesting taste, more spice). The cheese was mild tasting, but the smoked fish that lingered with it made it delicious. If you don't want strong fish, but a hint of smoked fish with something, go for the cheese. I'm hooked on these smoked fish markets up north. We really miss out down here for food this authentic and good.

I don't know if it's this place Manley's fish market or just people in Michigan all together, but I have never met nicer and kinder people anywhere. We went in there we bought a smoked fish for the first time in our lives, we bought this incredible fish dip that was made by the owners mom. I can't tell you how delicious this fish dip is. We tried a couple while we were in upper Michigan and this one was by far our favorite. I hope the owner's mom keeps making it until the next time that we drive up there. The entire experience was wonderful. The shop was clean and tidy and small and intimate and absolutely a blast. We even bought some delicious jam right off the counter. If this place were down the street from my house I would gain 300 lb just eating that dip and smoked fish. LOL you have to stop by and you have to get the dip. You have to! It is a life-changing experience for sure.

Manley's Fish Market on St. Ignace was the real deal! Hubby knew he wanted to try smoked fish here because it was an in town specialty and I'm so glad we did! The owner purchases the local whitefish the Ojibway people catch and smoke the fish. It didn't look all that appealing to me but once I tasted the fresh smokey flavor I knew we were tasting the best there was. Local caught and smoked fish. It doesn't get better than that. Also, their beef jerky and beef sticks are the best! Flavor comparison beats all the ones we have ever bought.

So when I travel I look for "Hole in the Wall" places to go and to eat! I do not even stop at busy tourist stops. We were just exploring and I noticed this little Green "Hole in the Wall" building. Without a doubt this is the ONLY place to get The best smoked fish and pasties. The pasties were very good! I love Em! Absolutely mouth watering Lake Trout. Got back to the hotel and I ate 1 and a half pounds of Lake Trout! Could not walk away from it!!! I can only imagine how good the rest of his menu is. This is a local Hot Spot! And roughly half the price of the others you will see in the U.P. Friendly and talkative. We stood in there and joked around. So I just had to buy a bottle of Ray Rays hot sauce!!! Good as well. Please support our local Mom and Pop stores and food places! And please, when you are Going U.P.. You go to Manley's...
