I like this new Valley View location. I've lived in Salem for 15 years and moved near the Valley View area a year-and-a-half ago. I missed our Ollie's in Salem and was pleased to find out this location had opened.
Holy cow! This Ollie's is great, too, and it's HUGE!
They keep a great variety of stuff, there're always good deals, and although the store is not terribly well laid out, it's still easy to find what you need.
They could improve on the attitudes of the personnel, though...
Some ignore you, others are outright rude; the only ones you really get any interaction from are the ones at the registers, since they really don't have any choice...
Even then, you get very little eye contact, and generally they won't speak to you unless you speak first, and then that's all you're getting.
It still won't break the good deals, so stop by, you'll find something you need.
Google asked me to update this review and although I am, it's not about the Valley View location. I went to the Salem location for the first time in a very long time and would say roughly the same things about it as I did about the Valley View location. Including personnel. Although there are a few here that are openly friendly, for the most part anyone you've happened to catch on the floor will avoid eye contact in case you're going to ask a question or need something, and only one of the three women at the front spoke and was friendly. She was doing fronting work on merchandise at the cash wrap. The two other women who are actually running the registers made it clear they weren't happy with anything. But again, all in all, doesn't detract from the bargains and the items...
Read moreA typical Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is a treasure hunt for anyone who loves a good deal. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by bright red signage, simple warehouse-style aisles, and shelves stacked high with all sorts of discounted goods — from home décor and kitchen items to books, toys, rugs, and even snacks. It’s not the most polished or organized store, but that’s part of its charm. You never quite know what you’ll find, and that makes every visit feel a bit like an adventure.
Prices are usually much lower than what you’d pay at major retailers. You can often score name-brand products for half the price, especially on bedding, cleaning supplies, or seasonal items. The selection changes constantly depending on what shipments come in, so regulars know to come back often to see what’s new.
The staff is usually friendly and helpful, though the checkout lines can get long during busy times. The store itself feels no-frills — concrete floors, cardboard displays, and handwritten signs — but the focus is clearly on savings, not fancy presentation.
If you enjoy hunting for bargains and don’t mind digging through a bit of clutter to find them, Ollie’s delivers exactly what it promises: “Good stuff cheap.” It’s perfect for stocking up on household essentials or discovering unexpected finds without spending much. While it’s not a place for quick, targeted shopping, it’s a fun stop for deal seekers who enjoy browsing and stretching...
Read moreCame in search of good stuff cheap! Left with a lot of items.............but had to return some of them because they were defective! When I came back to this little store, i was given a bunch of bloody mess by Sherry one of the workers. she then called a manager, a skinny girl with some crazy 80s looking glasses. She wasn't wearing a name-tag but they reffered to this manager as Casey. This manager Casey was very unprofessional and she had a big tattoo clearly displayed on her chest for everyone to see and big ear lobes. For a manager I had to laugh at this poor excuse. She denied my refund and said that I had damaged the items...I call bologna because the items were defective in the first place! This place is pathetic and if you are reading this then this should serve as a...
