I've recently moved into the area and needed a new gym. I headed out on my lunch break to sign up at the closest gym to me. I had assumed I would be able to walk up to the gym, sign a contract, and begin working out on my own. However, upon knocking on the door, I was greeted by a shorter older gentleman who was very clear, that was not acceptable. I was directly told at least 3 times by this person, in a very rude and curt tone, "This is a private gym, you need to schedule an appointment to be shown around". I tried pleading my case, that I just wanted to sign up, and didn't need a tour...But he wouldn't hear any of it. If this is how prospective members are treated, I don't want any part of your gym. Went down the street to another gym and signed up there on the spot.
Edit after reply from owner: The 1 star review will stand. Here's why: Admittedly, I didn't check the website before I headed out of the house. I just Googled "gym" and went to the closest one. The door has at least a half dozen signs with various information on them, so it's not as obvious as you state. When I showed up, I tried the door. Locked. So, I tried the "Ring Doorbell" that was attached to the door. After I clicked the button, I began reading the signs to gather more info on what I needed to do. Before I was able to find and read "obvious" sign you speak of, I was greeted by the rude gentleman I spoke of. The fact that I wrote this review, and your immediate response is "We're a private gym ~ it's pretty obvious" is about the same attitude the gentleman I spoke with sounded. First of all, I didn't go to your website, and wasn't given time to read all the random signage you have on your door. So, how is it obvious? To me, it was rather obvious I didn't have that information, and should no be treated poorly because of that fact. I would highly suggest yourself, and your staff take some communication classes. Learn how to not treat people poorly due to lack of knowledge and awareness of your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWorking with Neil was absolutely incredible! I had no experience with a personal trainer and zero to nil athletic experience. I had an old injury in my tailbone and didn't realize how out of alignment my body was. My first day of going to work one-on-one with Neil, I almost cried because I was so nervous. By the end of the session, I felt tremendously empowered and realized that I actually had fun. Working with Neil 2X a week became one of my favorite parts of the week. Any time I had a little something off center or causing me discomfort, all his knowledge of the human body through his training and his own experience came into play and he was immediately able to assess what was going on and help to relieve any discomfort.
Neil is a wonderful coach, amazing human being and has a passion for health and care of the body that is contagious. Additionally I really believe that he is a natural healer. Also if you get him talking, his stories about his life are incredible. But I also get the sense with him that he meets each person right where they are. So if you're someone who is less chatty, he can roll with that as well. Work with Neil! It will set you on an amazing path. We miss him terribly! You're lucky if he's in your city! He will meet you where you are and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI understand X365 Fitness has recently engaged Neil McLaren as a new trainer. Salt Lake City couldn't be luckier. Neil trained my wife and me for over 7 years starting in our early 60s. In every single session he gave full attention to correct form, adjusting for weakness or changes in physical status, and took extreme care to avoid injury while still pushing us past our comfort zones in order to build strength, tone, endurance, core strength and bone strength, and coordination, balance, and good posture. The sessions never felt "one size fits all" - he constantly adjusted routines and weights to fit our individual needs and abilities.
Lucky clients who sign up with Neil will enjoy a vast and colorful range of skills and experience. Besides weight training, his talents include cycling, martial arts and boxing, to name a few. His knowledge is encyclopedic when it comes to good diet, nutritional supplements and treatment for whatever may be slowing you down, be it physical or mental.
But Neil's strength is not merely in the what, but he shines in the how. He conducts himself with professionalism, creativity, respect, and puckish good humor and fun. To know, be trained by, and be friends with Neil McLaren has been the great privilege of the later years...
