Is To Go Really To Go? I've usually gone to the Pioneer Park location during summer farmer's markets over the past 7 years. Love the food! Was in Sugarhouse running errands, and popped in craving a delicious waffle! It was pretty quiet, and given what else I needed to get done, I asked for the food to go. The woman taking the order strangely and pushily asked, "Are you really going?" When I looked at her quizzically because I just stated my order, she continued in a almost snide tone, "We've had people ordering to go and then they just sit down and eat." (Heaven forbid someone changes their mind!) I just thought it was a somewhat rude thing to ask/say, shrugged it off, got my order in very well-boxed containers, and left (I "went"). They might want to consider less thorough packaging if they're worried about "wasting" to go containers on customers? My food was still delicious, but I'll probably stick with the Pioneer Park location during the summers only.
EDIT Upped a Star for Owner Response! I just saw the previous review detailing a more unpleasant experience the day before mine and realized that today's experience is probably from an employee that hadn't been informed yet. Kudos to management for...
Read moreMeh. It feels like a food truck that should have stayed a food truck. The parking is non-existent to this place unless you can snag one of the four street parking spots. Otherwise you're walking. The price of food for what you get is not great. The waffles are good but I really couldn't tell the difference between these and any of the other places that have good waffles. The fries were good but that's pretty easy. What's most surprising to me is that in a neighborhood as pretentious as Sugarhouse they are able to survive (let alone compete) using frozen Walmart chicken tenders. A couple of the other menu items were questionable as well. I ordered the machine gun sandwich and I guess I should have been more thorough while reading but there's never a time in my life as an adult when I find it acceptable to pay $16 for a sausage put on a cheap bun topped with fries. I mean the sausage was good but definitely can't call that a sandwich and again it was 16 bucks for a sausage on a bun. That's way too much money for basically a hotdog with no toppings. It would take a lot to get me to go back to this place, but if you have a craving for a fast, decent waffle (only the waffle though) then...
Read moreTasty treat for sure! My wife got the Rhapsody which is the very rich liège waffle topped with creme fraiche, raspberries and belgian chocolate sauce. Let me be honest, I'm not a fancy pants man so I don't know what the heck creme fraiche is. The best I can describe it is a buttermilk creme.
I got the machine gun sandwich and frites. If I were to do it again I would have gotten the smaller size but my wife ate most of my frites so maybe I would do the same thing. Basically it is a lamb sausage in a baguette drizzled with the most amazing Andalouse dipping sauce drowned in frites (basically fries but better). But the waffle and sandwich set me back a total of $20 which is a little pricey but it was a nice treat. Well worth the price!
The service was fast. The product was superb. The belgian themed decorations were fun and inviting. The staff was relatively friendly but not very good a suggestions or knowledge of products. The location was terrible or fantastic depending if you enjoy being across from the state liquor store (which was inviting to some vagabonds). I would probably choose a different location to go to...
