I'm puzzled why this dog park gets such good reviews. I took our beagle there today for the first time after working my way through several dead ends caused by the ongoing construction and congestion in Sugarhouse.
Homeless encampments dotted much of Fairmont park — especially around the pond near the dog area. As soon as I parked my vehicle, someone approached asking for money. The nearby park restrooms looked permanently locked, so I can only imagine where those people relieve themselves.
Other reviewers have commented on how large the fenced off-leash area is. I found it smaller than expected — not tiny, but certainly not large. The dog park is also immediately adjacent to the I-80 freeway, and the noise was more than annoying. It was loud enough to spook my dog. She didn't relax the entire time we were there.
Despite dozens of people and construction workers in the vicinity, there were no dogs in sight near the dog area. When I released our beagle in the off-leash area, she just sat there, as if to say, "Why did you bring me here? There are no dogs to play with — just a...
Read moreThis place was awesome! My 14 month old rescue husky had never been someplace like this before, but she made so many new friends, and so many husky noises that my heart was bursting with delight. The people there were incredible, and another husky owner gave me some great advice on how to help her high energy issues. Little Luna was confused by the husky speak, because she'd only heard those noises in videos. My girl really tried to teach her to be the adorable husky that she is, and maybe she'll figure it out once they play some more. It was nice to see my puppy get to run and play with other dogs, and this was spacious enough for her to run herself tired. I didn't think that was possible, but it happened. You want a safe place to take your furry family member? Check this place out! You won't be...
Read moreBeware those nasty contaminated dog water fountains in there. It has a bowl on the bottom for the pets out of convenience but it just sits there with stale water that collects disease. I don’t think it ever gets cleaned. Dogs step in it, people and dogs probably do their business in it & bugs and dirt sit in it. My dog unfortunately drank out of it and he ended up getting giardia and had really bad stomach issues that cost a hefty vet bill. I wish they would get rid of it or get a plain fountain for owners to monitor water intake. I would bring him back if they ever did. It’s a fenced and decently sized off leash park. Dog just needs a good bath afterward cause it’s all...
