The Old Dutch Store — Restaurant in Salt Lake City

I’ve been a loyal customer of this fantastic deli shop specializing in Dutch, German, and Scandinavian eats and treats, and every visit is delightfully yummy. Today was extra special—We indulged in the Vinnea and Sharon Special, which featured a mouthwatering liverwurst. And today, I learned the difference between fine and coarse liverwurst; trust me, the fine version is in a league of its own!

The shop itself is a treasure trove of authentic finds. Whether you’re in the mood for decadent chocolates, cake mixes to try baking, hearty German rye bread, or even my favorite—the German potato salad—this place has it all. The curated selection truly fits my need for European flavors.

I’ve also relied on this deli for my catering needs several times, and each experience has been on point. Their catering spread, featuring dishes like red cabbage, a refreshing cucumber salad, and a fantastic meat and cheese tray, never fails to impress. A special shout-out goes to Katie, who is always helpful and meticulous in organizing my orders perfectly.

I use to like this place, But got a really bad experience ordering jul korb to be ship to Arizona. When I was ordering through the phone I was told that it will be packed with ice . They shipped it out on Thursday 9th of December 2021. We received the package on Tuesday 7th . It was not shipped out as perishable. The weather in Arizona is not like Utah weather. The Product was ruined. There was no ice packed with the product. The manager did not call to apologize. She called me on the second day Thursday 16 of December, and didn’t apologize she was just blaming the U S postal service. No one from her store called me back on Wednesday. I don’t trust this store or the leadership of the managers They need to put a young manager to lead and who understand about customer service. This place don’t deserve a star from me. Update: I stand corrected. It’s nice that the picture is still there! But every time I’ve been in there, in the last 10+ years, the employees just seem annoyed at any questions, and treat us like we’re inconveniencing them, by asking them to ring us up, per their job description.

This place used to be awesome. It was a family. Now, the girls working here are extremely rude, and the shop, itself, is just... blah. There used to be a photo of a group of people from the old country, but that’s gone. That was a major talking point for those of us descended from people in that photo.
