I've called Spirit my home yoga studio for years -- and though I travel and practice around the world, I'm always happy to step through its doors in Pacific Beach and drop in for wonderful flows and great energy. Some of my favorite yoga teachers in San Diego gift their voice within, and offer YTT programs to grow the next generation of spirit builders.
Returning after a break during the onset of Covid has rekindled much yogic joy in my mind & body. Spirit has adapted well to the needs of the community with safety measures that still allow for a healthy & enjoyable practice. Lately I've been relishing the 330pm Tuesday/Thursday classes with Sarah Mondet. A $5 community class, the 330pm timeslots are often given to newly minted yoga teachers honing their flows, pace, and playlists. Sarah's class has been an absolute joy, due to both her burgeoning powers as a teacher and also an inner light that cannot help but shine through to studio's practitioners. She's a fantastic testament to the Spirit YTT program and I look forward to every class (especially as a break while remote working!). I can't wait for more of her flows and to revisit some of San Diego's best teachers at the studio in the weeks ahead. Go grab a mat and make your...
Read moreThreaten to be punch and asked to leave because I was using the block to stretch and instead of just laying flat! I thought yoga was a free practice as long as we are respectful to others, not if you are in SPITIT YOGA studio and class is tough by JONATHAN OLD! You are only allowed to do what he say otherwise he will ask you to leave the class you have just pay for! He littler tried to grab my arm and told me to leave!
I came to the class, put my mat down and the JONATHAN OLD/ teacher comes to me tries to grab my arm ( I moved) and told me that he will punch me in the face if my phone rings ( my phone was off, and I politely said that), he said it in the front of entire class! Unbelievable ! The worst experience ever! Then beginning of the class, we are laying on our backs, i put a block under my shoulders, he comes to me and said that I need to remove the block, I politely answered that I am stretching, he said that if I don't do it he will ignore me through the class. As class go on we are in the last stage of the class, he asked me to leave as I am not laying done steel ( I was laying down on my back crossing my legs over, not interrupting anybody). He said that this is not...
Read moreI've been going to Spirit 3-4 times per week for over 6 months and I love it. It's a beautiful, welcoming studio that's always clean and well-taken care of. There's a good variety of classes, from challenging Vinyasa 2/3 to relaxing yin yoga, and the blacklight yoga class is a fun change too. The studio is very aptly named, because it definitely has spirit and soul. Personally, I think it's a welcome contrast to corporate yoga-factory chains. What really sets it apart for me is that the people at Spirit -- whether it's the owners, teachers, or fellow classmates -- are consistently and genuinely kind, friendly and warm. There's none of the ego, competition, or over-the-top manufactured spirituality that seems to creep into some of the yoga community. I'm a personal trainer and I LOVE the fact that I can bring clients with me to yoga classes at Spirit, and I can be confident that they won't ever feel intimidated, out-of-place, or unwelcome. This studio truly is...
