Not very accommodating to a solo diner, or walk in.

Many open seats at the sushi bar, zero acknowledgement when I walked in, then poor assistance/explanation of how to get a seat or table. I decided to just show up because when I called no one answered. After she told me I couldn’t sit (again just me, and open seats everywhere)…. I asked if I could just order some food to-go, and was told that it would be a 1.5 hour wait.

Mind you it’s a very small location with limited seating, so perhaps they had a lot of take out orders to make or something? They also seem very fearful of covid still, kind of unsettling/ gave me a mid 2020 flashback, lol. Plastic divider when you walk in, bombardement of covid signs, hostess lady wearing a mask… kind of scary.

Overall I’d still like to be able to go in and have a nice meal so I’ll try again, I guess with a reservation for… myself?

I’m going to give tonight the benefit of the doubt because they seem to have great reviews from other patrons. I hope to have a good experience next time I go! Will update.

However be aware that you do need a reservation and they don’t answer the phone (in my...

I read the reviews and decided to give this local place a try. We dined this evening (8/27) and the service was a one star at best from the start. We ordered two miso soups & only one was brought out at the beginning, we had to ask multiple times for straws, server gave two of our plates to the table next to us so they had to remake our plates. When they brought out our plates the entrees were made poorly & nothing like when they first brought it out to the table next to us. And to it end it off, they accidentally charged us for extra items we did not order. The restaurant was not busy during this time, it was a quiet Tuesday so it is difficult to justify what happened. No apology was given. Maybe I should have said something but I am not that type of customer and just went on with my day. The food was okay, we did not finish everything. The service was very disappointing. I won’t be coming back & won’t recommend this place to anybody. (My first...

Just ordered a to-go feast for 4, and the overall food QUALITY & TASTE were pretty MEDIOCRE & bland, bordering on BAD, very very disappointing! A ā€œCā€ food grade at best.

I haven’t been at Mr. Sushi x years, but just returned to San Diego from foodie SF & was ready & looking forward to re-experience this once bustling PB sushi & Japanese food restaurant. We were able to patio dine at their famous nearby ā€œcompetitorā€ Sushi Ota a few weeks ago upon arrival, and found it an ā€œAā€ overall. I hear the other local & more divey PB Japanese food bizzes suck. Sad.

The owner Tony & his wife were there, he mainly sitting or giving words to his staff & she taking orders with trouble & charging you at pickup. Both look not well. Hard times for both now I guess. I’ll move on too, at least Ota is alive & well & serving...

It was my kids' first trip to see the ocean, so we went to Mission Beach. They also wanted to try fresh sushi, so we randomly picked Mister Sushi. I got a couple of California rolls because I knew they'd eat those, and a rainbow roll because I knew I'd eat that. Turns out, they all loved the rainbow roll even more than the California rolls! Service was fast and our server was so welcoming. Best sushi I've had. If we ever get back to the area, we'd definitely be repeat customers.

We eaten practically at every sushi place in San Diego and nothing compares to the quality of sushi you get here. Tony and Sue always give good customer service and if you want fresh and top quality sushi this is the place. My whole family is sushi addicts and we just can't find anything that comes close to Mr Sushi. Favorites..la bamba handroll, shrimp tempura roll and the Halibut sashimi with spicy sauce its delicious!!!

So good! The Spicy Lobster roll was amazing and had a lot of meat, I got the spider roll (soft shell crab) which is always good, I special requested quail eggs wrapped in seaweed with rice(not on menu). The green tea has matcha, so it is very nice and flavorful. The Owner and employees are from Japan and very nice. Limited seating but worth the wait!
