Not very accommodating to a solo diner, or walk in.
Many open seats at the sushi bar, zero acknowledgement when I walked in, then poor assistance/explanation of how to get a seat or table. I decided to just show up because when I called no one answered. After she told me I couldnāt sit (again just me, and open seats everywhere)ā¦. I asked if I could just order some food to-go, and was told that it would be a 1.5 hour wait.
Mind you itās a very small location with limited seating, so perhaps they had a lot of take out orders to make or something? They also seem very fearful of covid still, kind of unsettling/ gave me a mid 2020 flashback, lol. Plastic divider when you walk in, bombardement of covid signs, hostess lady wearing a mask⦠kind of scary.
Overall Iād still like to be able to go in and have a nice meal so Iāll try again, I guess with a reservation for⦠myself?
Iām going to give tonight the benefit of the doubt because they seem to have great reviews from other patrons. I hope to have a good experience next time I go! Will update.
However be aware that you do need a reservation and they donāt answer the phone (in my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI read the reviews and decided to give this local place a try. We dined this evening (8/27) and the service was a one star at best from the start. We ordered two miso soups & only one was brought out at the beginning, we had to ask multiple times for straws, server gave two of our plates to the table next to us so they had to remake our plates. When they brought out our plates the entrees were made poorly & nothing like when they first brought it out to the table next to us. And to it end it off, they accidentally charged us for extra items we did not order. The restaurant was not busy during this time, it was a quiet Tuesday so it is difficult to justify what happened. No apology was given. Maybe I should have said something but I am not that type of customer and just went on with my day. The food was okay, we did not finish everything. The service was very disappointing. I wonāt be coming back & wonāt recommend this place to anybody. (My first...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust ordered a to-go feast for 4, and the overall food QUALITY & TASTE were pretty MEDIOCRE & bland, bordering on BAD, very very disappointing! A āCā food grade at best.
I havenāt been at Mr. Sushi x years, but just returned to San Diego from foodie SF & was ready & looking forward to re-experience this once bustling PB sushi & Japanese food restaurant. We were able to patio dine at their famous nearby ācompetitorā Sushi Ota a few weeks ago upon arrival, and found it an āAā overall. I hear the other local & more divey PB Japanese food bizzes suck. Sad.
The owner Tony & his wife were there, he mainly sitting or giving words to his staff & she taking orders with trouble & charging you at pickup. Both look not well. Hard times for both now I guess. Iāll move on too, at least Ota is alive & well & serving...
