I feel tricked and scammed. I called in and asked how much is it gonna cost for bleaching twice specifically. The owner replied $80. When I got there, the owner said $80 is for bleaching once, double for bleaching twice. Somehow I managed to bargain it to $120 with a haircut and started getting my hair cut and bleached. After my bleaching session everyone was trying to persuade me into having the hair oil and steaming for $50 and I said it’s too expensive I don’t wanna do it. They said maybe $40 then. I still refused. Mentioning it’s my birthday, the staff agreed on giving me the oil steaming for free verbally and quite explicitly. If it had gone with that I’d be leaving a 5-star review because haircut is good and bleaching is fine. However, after I’m done I paid 120+20tip, they said it should be 160+tip. I needed to get more cash from the ATM across street to pay for that extra $40 which I was not going to spend if not for the FAKE free promise. This is upfront dishonesty. That’s the story. Mixed experience - excellent haircut, poor customer service
I visited Helen's Beauty Salon on June 13th, 2025, and had a contrasting experience that deserves both praise and criticism.
The positive: My male hair stylist did exceptional work. He listened carefully to my requests and delivered exactly what I wanted without over-cutting. The haircut quality was outstanding, and the prices are very reasonable. I was so pleased with his work that I tipped $17 above the haircut price.
The negative: After my haircut, I needed to use the restroom & was directed to a cramped back room. While navigating the tight space, I accidentally dropped my phone, which unfortunately hit another customer on the head. I immediately apologized profusely.
However, a female staff member in the back room became extremely hostile toward me. When I was still trying to locate the restroom, she yelled at me in a very rude manner. Her unprofessional behavior was completely inappropriate, especially given that my phone drop was clearly an accident.

Read moreHairstyle is a really subjective thing, so I really need someone who cares about my hair style and understand what I want. The hair stylist is not good in community in English but he tried his best to understand what I want. Or maybe showing a picture could also help!
Can't find another other option for my picky asian hair style!
If you can't speaking Cantonese or Mandarin Chinese, try to explain with pictures or come with someone who can translate for you!
P.S. I have tried several salons in Chinatown, though he messed up my hairstyle the first time, he's getting much better every time and now he's the only person I trust to style...
