After 63 visits to Yummy Yummy and 24 to its sister restaurant, Y&Y, Yummy Yummy remains my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. I enthusiastically submit this recommendation without the slightest reservation.
Growing up, my mother prepared multiple Vietnamese dishes for my family on a daily basis, often visiting multiple markets and grocery stores each day in search of the highest quality ingredients. Yummy Yummy’s dishes are most similar to my mothers of the over 100 Vietnamese restaurants I have tried in the U.S. and abroad. The food is prepared with high-quality ingredients and meticulous care. My favorite dishes are: Bún riêu, Cua rang muối, Bánh xèo, Cháo gà, Bún thịt nướng, Bánh cuốn, and Chả giò. Portions are generous at extremely reasonable prices.
The staff are wonderful. They are friendly and helpful in English, Vietnamese, and Cantonese. This is a must-visit restaurant in San Francisco—even if a bit out of the way! (I usually frequent the restaurant several times per week, and it is 41 minutes from my home in Mission Bay.) A special thank you to Joy and Mr. Luc for helping make my experience so lovely and for putting a...
Read moreThis has been my go-to place for pho when I lived in the neighborhood from 2013-2017. Even though I live all the way on the other side of the city, I make it a point to come here whenever I'm in this side of the city.
The folks who work + own this restaurant are very kind, always checking in to see if the food is good, and always remembers you! The food is pretty damn great as it's been a staple for me for awhile. Downside is it's gotten a little more pricier over the years (but blame how expensive how SF has gotten).
One thing I love about this place is they TAKE CARE OF THEIR WORKERS like family. After dinner last night with a friend, we were just hanging out outside after they closed. We ended up chatting with one of the owners and found out he was dropping off all his workers off to their homes to make sure they got home safe (Asian hate and racism is still very well alive in 2023). Besides the good food and service over the years, this only made me love this place even more! I don't write many reviews, but I think this place warrants a review because how consistent...
Read moreThis is probably my favorite Vietnamese place in the city, but that doesn't mean it's the best all time. You'd have to go to Oakland or San Jose for the really good stuff!
The food here is delicious. The pho is on par, full of flavor and meat, but we love going here for the non-pho items, like Bun Bo Hue or Five Spice Chicken rice plates. The Banh Xeo (crepe) is really good too. They have a wide menu and so far, everything we've tried has been good, even with takeout. If you do pho take-out, they have the dried goods in a nice size to-go bowl and the piping hot pho broth stored separately Of course you also get the condiments (bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalepenos, and lemon wedges), but they also toss in little containers of hoisen and sriracha sauce, which really just makes my day!
The owner is always really nice. Sometimes there's a wait, but tables usually turnover really fast. Parking is a pain because San Tung next door is also really popular, but I still pick this place over Kevin's or PPQ...
