I chose San Francisco Native Tours because it had the highest rating. Within ten minutes of the tour starting I realized why. Within fifteen minutes I realized it was unlike any tour I’ve ever been on. We walked through the city like we owned the place. Greeted like locals by every local business we walked into, and treated like old friends by our tour guide. I’ve been on tours through ancient cities and major world centers but I have never before had a guide whose aim was clear: to make us love the city the way he did. We were never overwhelmed with facts and the four hour tour never dragged or felt tedious—quite a feat spending that much time on your feet. Our guide’s knowledge was encyclopedic bud his delivery was light and fun. His enthusiasm was so infectious that even the two high school kids who were clearly dragged on the tour by their parents dropped their “I’m too cool to be here and I hate my parents” vibe within twenty minutes. After the tour I felt that I could confidently ward my newfound knowledge of San Francisco’s hidden gems over recent tech arrivals. I really did feel like I native. I was so engaged and amazed I barely glanced at my phone all afternoon—for me, this is incredibly rare. Oh, and we ate cheese! Like a couple of different kinds of cheese! From different places that sell cheese! There were even food options for the pitiable people who don’t eat cheese. And we ate dimsum—amazing dim sum from the kind of place that doesn’t even have English menus. And we ate Italian sandwiches. And we ate toffy and pastries. But most of all, we ate cheese! Some tours made me want to live in the city I was visiting, some tours left me in awe of the history I walked in, this tour did both, but moreover it left me a little bit in love with...
Read moreWe did the original tour with Stuart. O.M.G.!! At the risk of repeating what everyone else has already said, this was the best, most informative, entertaining tour we have ever done anywhere, foreign or domestic. On a tour originally scheduled for two couples, the other couple bailed, so we had a private tour. I sincerely doubt that anyone else has the interest, enthusiasm, historical knowledge, or image library that Stuart has. No doubt that any tour he offers (and he is willing to customize a tour, depending on your interests) would be stellar. We would never book anyone else, going forward. Re the particular tour we did, this is not primarily a food tour, although we did get some delicious "bites" at 2 Italian provisioners and the best pork shumai ever in Chinatown. No doubt that even locals would learn much about their own city they didn't know. Stuart is also a great and generous source of recommendations for anything San Francisco you might care to ask about. Can't recommend him...
Read moreI'm a native San Franciscan with friends visiting from out of town and wanted to do something different than the typical tourist stuff so we signed up for this tour. We were all so glad that we did. This tour was not only a highlight of my friends' visit, but such a fun and memorable experience. It was one of the best tours I have ever been on. Stuart's native knowledge far surpassed my own. I'm not terribly interested in history, but he made everything really interesting. And of course, there was all the food. The food was not only really good, but very generous portions. You will walk away satisfied and full. I highly...
