1 week update 12-28-24 Even though, the salon PROVIDED A GREAT SERVICE to me 1 week ago and I was looking forward to come back to them, unfortunately I have to take away the 5 stars rating I gave them and only give them a 1 star rating because they have Discriminated me. They have said that I am not welcomed back to their salon anymore. I don't know why they would say this if I NEVER SAID OR DID ANYTHING WRONG! The only thing I did was to ask for their permission to follow them on their social media like many others do. With what they have said to me, they have made me feel HORRIBLE and WORTHLESS because they are seeing me as not worthy enough to follow them on their social media! To me it's like they are putting me down because a Latino can't be a part of the same social class they are! And therfore, I am beneath them! Is it so wrong to ask for their permission to follow them on their social media? All I can do is Pray for them to My God, My Heavenly Father so he can help them not have prejudice towards others, see that we are all equal, and to find peace in their hearts! And because that's the kind of person that I am, I still wish them the best!
12-21-24 So I let my mustache grow for 2 months and therefore it was starting to look wild hahaha. So I googled Salons/Barbershop that specializes in beard and mustache trims. And public barber salon poped up. I checked their website and the pictures of the the inside of the salon, was retro so I was sold. I messaged them and made and appointment with the hairstylist, Lindsey. When I got to my appointment, the front desk receptionist was super friendly. And I didn't even wait 2 minutes when Lindsey came out. She also was super friendly. She asked me what she could do for me and I said just alittle bit of trimming on my mustache. And she said sure and did her magic. She was so nice because she even recommended me a mustache balm that I can use also for my beard. And I bought it because want my mustache to keep looking freaking awesome the way Lindsey made it đ Look forward to coming back to Lindsey for my...
Read moreI've been going to Public Barber for the last 3 years , because I've almost always enjoyed my cut and I like the experience. Last year, PB closed its Geary location and moved all business to their North Beach location. Even though the commute to NB is significantly longer for me, I continued to go because I enjoyed my experience, and I always got a great cut from Daniel Tolbert.
Today I was running late and my arrival fell outside of Public Barber's 10 minute grace period; I had some unexpected traffic crossing the city and arrived late. They called me right at 10:10 to let me know they were cancelling my appointment due to their policy (which to be fair, is well stated in their booking app). I was only 5 more minutes away, but they wouldn't allow me to keep the appointment. They cancelled my appointment then charged me a $55 cancellation fee; also something they make clear on their booking app.
I absolutely understand that these policies are in place to keep things moving. However over the last 3 years I've never been late to an appointment, and when necessary, I've always cancelled within the shop's 2 hr. cancellation period. It's very disappointing to me that my 3 years of loyalty mean nothing to the salon, and when I said as much to them, they showed little empathy for my situation. I would have been ok with the shop cancelling my booking, so they don't leave other clients waiting. Charging me a fee after 3 years of on-time appointments and loyal patronage, however, is a deal breaker.
In short, you should absolutely go to Public Barber for a quick cut, and I highly recommend Daniel for men's hair! He's done a great job on my hair for 3 years. Just remember that your loyalty ultimately doesn't matter to this...
Read moreI have lived in a lot of places and always struggle to find a quality barber in every new City. Being particular about my hair and trying to keep a clean, professional look with some element of style keeps me in a shop every two-three weeks. It has been tough in Oakland and I tried a few spots recommended by friends and colleagues. It took an internet search and some good reviews of this place to get me across the Bay and into SF for a haircut. From the door, I was impressed with the place, the hospitality of the front desk staff and the free beer. The vibe is cool, the magazine selection is super interesting and the book covered walls make it comfortable and kinda cozy. Most importantly though, the haircuts have been incredible! They follow instructions, offer suggestions and seem like true master craftsman/craftswoman. I've had several different barbers over the last few months and always walked out feeling good about myself and the clean cut I received. The Kevin Murphy products are excellent and the place is my new spot. Being picky about my hair and knowing the struggles I've been through in new cities, this place is so good and has been such a savior for me that I had to write a review. Check it out. You won't be...
