Banana Republic — Local services in San Mateo

It’s a banana republic so it’s a solid place to buy clothes. The one star is for the borderline hostile service. No one asked us if we needed help both times we entered the store, first time to gauge the store since I had never been in one before and the second to buy clothes on the way out since we parked right outside. That’s not really a problem but the obvious, almost cartoonish level of following my spouse and I through the store was insane.

Unless it is BR policy to fold two pieces of clothing in each men’s section at a time while moving sections in a zig zag pattern to other sections, that I also happened to follow, I was either being followed by the same employees who assumed with no communication I was a thief or was about to be robbed by said employees. I doubt the latter so I’m going to assume the former.

The clothes were nice but I couldn’t finish shopping for clothes I needed for my new job. The employees offered no help, made me feel uneasy, unsafe and didn’t care to talk to me until they had to offer me a...

I used to shop here regularly for clothes, though it's been a while. I went yesterday and found out they no longer carry petites. I wonder if the genius who made the decision to remove that section has stepped foot inside Hillsdale. This is a mall full of petite ladies.
