I think it is mostly by habit that we go into places like the Home Depot. It's a shame because this is quite well stocked. The staff here will always stop to help you anytime that you need it. Likewise, the staff also knows when to leave me alone as I met her and look for things. Yes, you know I'm going to ask for help eventually. The last time I was in, I was looking for parts for the plumbing on our house.
It was a screwball connection and every place I had gone to gave me the same dumb look I had on. Not when I went into Ace. In fact, I was working with a former plumber who not only found what I needed but gave me a couple of tricks and tips. This Ace is very close to Mount Hood and their products have been tailored for that type of customer as well as all the goodies homeowners need. This is what you need in a hardware store. Ah, what about prices? I find them to be competitive. Unfortunately, since I had been looking at these parts, I knew what to expect in price which was at least an advantage in that manner. I was able to compare prices, and it was within a buck or two of the Home Depot or Amazon.
That's cheap advice! That I'm sure would have also saved me two or three trips and two or three returns with Amazon, and I suspect it would have saved me hours looking and days being able to justify going out there. You see I live 15 mi away from Home Depot and I live 7 mi from Ace. Now if I were going to gripe about Ace, it would certainly be their hours of operation. You need to plan your day around getting to Ace, which reminds me way too much of the times I used to have to go screaming down to before the bank before it closed. Even though it is closer to me, a small trip still ends up taking me a couple of hours to and from. That said, I make the time because it saves me time and as we all know time is money.

Read moreToday my husband asked to stop at the Ace and get him a rubber stopper for our A/C. I went in and politely asked the man at the front where they kept the rubber stoppers. He asked me why I needed it, which I assumed was so that he could properly direct me to where they are. No, he wanted to argue with me that that's not what I need. Then a man in line started telling me that I need to vent my A/C out of the house, which seriously? Duh. But that's besides the point.
I should not have to justify myself to get simple directions to where something is. I did not ask them for help with my A/C, I did not ask their opinion on what I was buying. I asked a simple question - where do you keep your rubber stoppers. This simple question only required a simple answer, where they are. I told them several times that I don't care, my husband asked me to get the stopper and that's all I'm going to do and they WOULD NOT tell me where they were, so I told them I would let my husband deal with this and left.
My husband went up a couple hours later, asked where the rubber stoppers were, was given a simple answer, bought the rubber stopper and left. Five minutes, in an out.
I will NEVER shop at Ace...
Read more2/22/22: I had to pick up several items today and as always, Ace Hardware in Sandy was my go-to store. Everyone is always so friendly and helpful, and today I wanted to give a special shout-out to David, who helped me find some heat lamp bulbs and LED bulbs. David always goes above and beyond to help me get exactly what I need. He's knowledgeable and friendly, both at the register as well as in the rest of the store. Thank you, David, for yet another great experience at Ace Heritage Hardware in Sandy, OR.
2017: I made a trip out to Sandy today because I needed several household items and I knew that Ace Hardware would have them. Chimneys for some oil lamps, a couple of spacer things for my spinning wheel flyer/bobbin, insulation foam, and some replacement bulbs for our motion detector lights. A very knowledgeable young woman named CeCe helped me, and she was terrific; she was very friendly and knew right where everything was that I needed.
I love this store! Why in the world would anyone ever go to a big box store when everything you need is right here? Always! And I love supporting a small town business, too.
Way to go, Ace Hardware! And way...
