Used to be good but now they have new people who are really rude and condescending (especially this one extremely overweight, bearded person with glasses named Cory — go to another location if you see him).
A while back, I transferred my GameStop gift card credit to Amazon Cash at this location with no questions asked. I even asked if it’s OK and they said yes. Today, I asked another employee that was there if I can do that and the aforementioned overweight, bearded person named Cory rudely interjected with a blunt “NOPE” without even making eye contact.
I understand there are policy changes and the employees are often informed via an earful by their employers, but that gives them zero leeway to inform customers in an unprofessional manner. After asserting my frustration, he — along with the former employee I was speaking with — had the audacity to counter my frustrations unprofessionally.
GameStop’s policies are strict and I understand that the employees have little to no flexibility on them so the only thing they can do is follow them and relay them to the customers, but they must always be done in a professional manner instead of barking in short hiccups like “NOPE - NOPE - NOT A CHANCE.” Perhaps this location will suffer the same fate as its neighboring location which just recently closed down.
Stay away from this location — you’ll only find unprofessionalism here.
EDIT ON 11/14/2022: Didn’t think it could get any worse but it did. The manager named Chris is extremely rude. He wants to give you no for an answer at all costs.
I went in to trade in my brand new Nintendo Switch for the OLED model. My brother is a PowerUp Rewards member, he was present for the trade-in and I was going to use his membership as I have done several times before for the promotional extra trade-in credit for rewards members. You can tell Chris wanted to give “no” as an answer from the start. Extremely rude and not a friendly vibe at all. He said, “Doesn’t look like you have the box. And as I told you, you need the box for the trade-in.” Not sure how he missed it, but I presented the box but we moved forward with the trade-in. Then he goes, “This doesn’t look sealed. I said that it needs to be brand new. Where’s the seal?”
We pointed out that brand new Nintendo Switch boxes do not have seals and even used the brand new OLED Nintendo Switch box in their inventory as reference to confirm it. He begrudgingly proceeded with the trade-in, looking for another reason to deny it. He asked if we have proof of purchase (even though they typically never ask for that but I came prepared for this extremely strict location regardless). Then, after noticing that my brother was asking me for proof of purchase, he realized it was my Nintendo Switch and pettily used that to his advantage. He asked me a couple of questions and when my brother was interjecting, he said, “He needs to answer the questions. Not you. I’m asking him” in the rudest way possible. After I answered the questions, he goes, “Oh wait, actually, I can’t do this trade-in because it’s not your PowerUp Rewards membership.” He then made yet another bogus claim that since it’s on camera, he can’t do it.
I ended up calling, and going in-person to, a few other nearby locations that confirmed they can do the trade-in even if I’m using my brother’s Power Up Rewards. Just goes to show that this location in particular is not in your best interest whatsoever. This edit is 4 years after another bad experience I had and, color me shocked, it’s gotten even worse than before. There are some recent reviews that claim the quality of this location has gotten better but I’d take it with a grain of salt. If you see the name-tag “Chris”, do yourself a favor and walk away. Check the other reviews that have Chris’ name and you’ll see what I mean — in one of them, he...
Read moreThe employees at this store are lazy and could care less about the customer. I bought a headset for my son. The box very clearly states it’s a universal remote headset. It also states, as you can see in the pictures, that it should work for his PlayStation 5. I went back to the same store I purchased it from with the same employee working who sold it to us and knew it was for a PS5. They flat out refused to return it based on the fact that the box had been opened. I stated that because it does not connect universally as stated on the box that would deem it defective and returnable per their policy. He (claims he is the store manager) said he has nothing to exchange it with anyway and continued to refuse to do anything. When I stated I would contact corporate and also leave reviews about their lack of service they both mocked me and spottily stated, enjoy writing your review and laughed as a I left the store.
Bradley, the store manager at the Woodfield location was happy to actually do his job. He stated the headset I bought is not compatible with PS5 despite what the box says and the employee at the Schaumburg store should have known that and mentioned it before I bought it. He went out of his way to find a store that has a compatible headset and call their store manager to explain my situation and have him hold the correct headset for me. If the guy at this location with the small eye is truly the store manager he has no business being one because he lacks any sort of customer service skills and could clearly care less.
The entire store smells of body odor and is extremely off-putting on top of the poor people skills and lack of customer service.
Showed up at the Arlington Heights store to exchange it and they wouldn’t do it either and said they hadn’t heard from Bradley either so now I’m stuck with a headset my son cannot use.
This is why physical stores are closing and people would rather...
Read moreWas just in here with with my son. A lady was paying and then afterwards asked for a bag. She was told she had to buy one for $1. She said okay sure, but total was was $1.09 so she said she had to run out to her car for the 9¢. She did and came back in 30 seconds, or less, later. In that time the associate, Chris, took the next customer. The next customer wanted to sell a gaming system. Chris started to check it. The woman came back in with her 9¢ and Chris told her she had to get back in line, behind me and wait to buy the bag! She said okay, never mind and left.. Unbelievable he expected her to wait in line 15 minutes or so for that bag rather than just taking the 30 seconds to sell it to her quickly. It’s not like the store was busy? I told Chris how rude of him it was. Why couldn’t he just quickly sell her the bag when he knew she’d have to wait a while otherwise? I swear that I normally Don’t post reviews or complaints like this, but was shocked because he even defended it when I said Something. Maybe Chris woke up On the wrong side of the bed today. The lady left without saying anything. I don't Think I could have bit my tongue...
