Good selection. Good prices. Big assortment of ethnic foods. Sea food, meats, produce, bakery all better than the big chain brands. I think the store might be a TARDIS.
UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER 09-20-2021: In the past, I've always received good service and good selection at this location. Sadly this has not continued to be true as was illustrated by today's trip to the store. I went with a small shopping list of things that should have been easy to find. Among the items that went wrong were potatoes, fresh fish, dill pickles (not kosher. I don't want garlic)
Potatoes: Were small and blemished across the board, including bulk. Dill pickles w/o garlic (not kosher dill) In the refrigerated section - several brands of kosher dill. In the pickle section - several brands of kosher dill. In short, lots of brands of the same thing but no variety. Asking staff for help got me blank stares an no help. Eventually a management level person was able to find dill pickles in the Polish section. Fresh fish: This was the worst. No one was in the fish department. So I waited and waited and waited. I finally stepped over to the meat department and found the guy there chatting away with the guy in the meat department. I asked him if he could help me with fish and he grudgingly stepped over. I asked him if the halibut was fresh and he stared at me. I finally asked him for the fish. He packed it up and asked me if that was all. I asked about large shrimp and he pointed to a tray. I asked if there were any larger. He pointed to the case on the floor. I stepped over to the case to find smaller shrimp. I stepped back to find him back in the meat department chatting with his friend. I had to fetch him back. I asked for the shrimp and asked him the best way to thaw the shrimp. He stared at me. I asked again. He said "put it in the fridge" and handed me the shrimp and hurried back to his friend in the meat department. I guess I'm done here. I checked out.
Sadly, this is becoming typical of the service there. If you know what you want and can get it yourself, you'll be fine. If you need help with anything or are expecting service, go...
Read moreAs an 82-year-old senior citizen, I have always appreciated businesses that show respect and understanding toward their older customers. Unfortunately, my recent experience at was anything but respectful.
I’ve been shopping at this store for years and have always been treated with courtesy. However, during my most recent visit, I was shocked when the cashier insisted that I provide identification to receive the senior discount. Not once in all my years of shopping here have I been asked to prove my age. It was immediately apparent that I am a senior; my years are written in the lines on my face and the silver in my hair. To have my age questioned so dismissively was both insulting and embarrassing.
When I politely expressed that I had never been asked for ID before, the cashier responded with extreme rudeness, as if I was being difficult or trying to deceive them. I never thought I’d be put in a position where I had to defend my own age. This isn’t just about a discount; it’s about the respect that every senior citizen deserves, especially after a lifetime of contributing to the community.
I understand policies might change, but there is a way to enforce them without making loyal customers feel unwelcome or disrespected. I am deeply disappointed by how I was treated and will seriously reconsider whether I want to continue shopping in the future.
I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and reminds their staff that a little kindness and respect go a long way, especially when dealing with...
Read moreI come here for Amish organic and free range eggs, chickens and butter, nice selection of lamb and veal cuts (including ground), organic non-homogenized milk, Greek pasta and cheeses, Deitz & Watson deli, Greek gyro and cucumber sauce, hot freshly baked french breads, fantastic produce selection, and a variety of ethnic foods. There are attended meat and fish counters with a selection of wild caught fish. Whole fish is displayed, so you can judge the freshness by the eyes: I pay a bit more to have it fileted fresh and delicious. The deli provides lasagna by the slice and by the pan (too salty for my taste), calzones, fried zucchini and eggplant with and without blue cheese, and more. The check out clerks are fast... I've never spent an excessive time in line nor encountered a pricing issue but I do wish that they wiped their belt more often. The products that I've mentioned are what bring me to Valli's. I don't buy ultra-pasteurized and when Valli's has not stocked Dean's pasteurized whipping cream I need to go to the Jewel. It's also only at the Jewel that I can obtain St. Delfour fruit spread (an all fruit jam ~ no sugar), a wider variety of teas, Cascade yogurt, fried chicken, and it seems to me that Jewel's deli meat has more flavor. All in all, unique items, great prices, and no shopping headaches other that busy time is very crowded and the deli can be a long wait. As in all stores, I check the product dates...
