Savers is one of the better resale shops in the area, with two exceptions, just in my own personal opinion: One: I feel like whomever sets their price points on items is trying entirely too hard to create a profit margin by way of a strategy akin to Walmart's (pricing certain items dirt cheap and others higher than they rightly should or need to be, in order to compensate for the lower priced items in order to cover overhead expenses that come nowhere near those of the big box establishments who have hundreds of employees to pay, plus health insurance and investment matching contributions for their full time employees, longer hours, which demand staff for an overnight cleaning, dock receiving, and stocking crew, etc — all things that Savers does NOT have), and as an example, they have begun pricing items such as non-essential things (certain easy to obtain elsewhere knick-knacks and housewares that I know already came directly from Dollar Tree for exactly $1.25 or $1.50, as well as things that one might consider a necessity, like clothing items, but many of the options to be had, while they may have brand name tags on them like Levi, Gap, or even Michael Kors, they are torn, tattered, stained, and otherwise more suited for scrap fabric, yet priced between $15-20 for jeans and sometimes 10 and 15 for tops) and I feel like if I'm gonna pay that much for my clothes, I might as well just go buy them at Walmart or Target, or go to a better resale store like Wings where at least stuff will be in presentable, wearable shape, and probably not quite so expensive. I found 3 pairs of Old Navy Rock Star jeans and a pair of Rock and Republic jeans there not long ago at all and paid just over 20 bucks for all 4 pairs, and not a one of them had a single thread out of place, all the zippers worked, and they felt brand new. Lucky finds? Maybe. But I'm thinking it may have had more to do with the fact that they're not trying to compete with the big box people so hard.
Two: This might not be anything they can do anything about personally, and that's fine, but it still poses an inconvenience that keeps me from coming here as a regular customer — the parking lot. I'm disabled, and trying to find a spot where I can park that isn't both way at the other end of the lot somewhere where I've gotta stumble between rows of cars just to get to the concrete partition that separates the ONE row of available spots in front of the store which has all of TWO handicap spots, NEITHER of which seem to actually be for the establishment itself, judging by their distance from it, themselves, on top of the fact that they always seem to be taken when I try to go there, so it's typically only those once in a blue moon type situations that I ever go here, like, if I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for ANYWHERE else. And I do mean ANYWHERE ELSE, because just about EVERYWHERE else, resale stores in the area included, have handicap spots available actually in front of their stores FOR their customers, like they're actually supposed to. I wasn't always disabled, and I didn't always understand how difficult it is for people to get around when they deal with this stuff, and I hate being that person who's all whiny about accessibility, but at the same time, I'm still a consumer, I don't deserve to be confined to my home with online shopping being my only option, and it gets frustrating when I go somewhere and have such a hard time simply getting from my car to the store itself; it makes me WANT to ask about the local ordinances. And not just for me, but for other people who might have an even HARDER time than I do, and want to patronize these same places, but can't, because the closest spot they can find to park in order to have room to get their chairs out of the car happens to be 5 establishments down in the complex, and maybe even downhill, where they don't have the strength to wheel themselves up to where they wanna go. And if they decided to tough it out, then to go in there and get bent over on pricing on top of it? Tell me that...
Read moreThis store sells many items that Buyer should be aware. They sell broken electronics with missing cords. My husband bought several clock radios from them...several had broken tuners...others could not be set. Printers that had not been used so in order to use them, you would need new print heads and new ink...you might as well buy a new printer. They sell out dated VCR's with no HDMI. A small TV about the size of a large computer moniter with a missing power cable was also sold to my husband. How could they even know if it works...the cable to replace it was $75. Why would you buy a $75 cable without knowing if it worked. Those should be taken to Best Buy for recycle...no matter how good they might look on the surface. Also, They sold some electric metal power strips to my husband, which are not safe by today's standards. And, I think they have no business selling electronics. Other examples, of poor merchandise...steam cleaners with missing or broken parts. One even had a broken plastic water tank. It would cost more for the parts than to buy new ones.Battery operated phones with missing cables and/or bad batteries....worthless. Here again, the adapters would be half the price of a new phone, not to mention if the battery were also need of replacement. Those things should go to places like Cash Converters who have the ability to judge what is saleable...or just sent to Best Buy for recyle.
They sold my husband a beer stein which had been glued back together in several places. Wing's by comparison does not sell electronics. He had picked up some silver mugs that were filthy on the inside...they could not even be cleaned. This store has no scruples about what they sell. This is something that I found disgusting...they sold broken trophies from local sporting events. Parts were obviously broken, chipped, or missing.
They ought to be reported to the BBB. Yes, you can watch what you but they ought to be more selective about what they sell. Not a good place to buy anything much.
A lot of items would not even sell at a garage sale. In my opinion go to Wing's or the...
Read moreMy opinion of this store has been up and down for a couple years. They do have a lot of inventory but what I'd like to know is who the hell the people are that put prices on said inventory. Sometimes I really believe they're high on drugs. While some things are reasonably priced, too many items are over priced. I'm starting to believe they automatically double some of their prices because Mondays are half price day. If an item is old, forget it. It could be a 50 year old piece of pottery that was broken and glued back together and it'll show a ridiculous price tag. News flash people. Just because something's old, doesn't mean it's worth anything. I was in there today after not being in there for some time. Wow! They had some repro cast iron banks priced between $24.99 and $49.99. I heard a manager tell someone else they were old. Even their management isn't knowledgeable. All a person had to do was flip the things over to read "Taiwan" as clear as day on the underside. I saw a broken porcelain figurine/music box broken in half and badly glued back together(there's no way someone could've missed it) priced at $5.99. They are busy but I see more clothes than anything go out the door. It's REALLY hard to find a good resale shop anymore. They're all pricing themselves out of business. Probably why Savers had to close so many locations. Isn't the point of any store to...
