Mediterranean Kitchen: A Casual First Encounter Our initial visit to PitHouse Mediterranean Kitchen offered a glimpse into a no-frills, self-service Mediterranean dining experience. Located conveniently with ample parking, this spot allows you to walk right in and place your order at the counter. The menu, clearly displayed on the wall and thoughtfully available in paper form for takeaway (a definite plus for future catering considerations!), made ordering straightforward. We opted for the APPETIZER COMBO, featuring Hummus, Baba Ghannouj, Jerusalem Salad, and Tabouleh Salad. While the selection provided a nice variety of classic dips and salads, the freshness of the latter seemed to be lacking. The creamy hummus and smoky baba ghannouj were enjoyable, but the salads could have benefited from a crisper presentation. Moving on to the mains, the CHICKEN KABAB proved to be a satisfying choice. The grilled strips of chicken were indeed tender, and the generous portion size, accompanied by flavorful rice pilaf, a simple salad, and warm pita bread, offered good value. In contrast, the CHICKEN SHAWARMA SANDWICH was a bit of a letdown, leaning towards the drier side. Thankfully, a side of sauce helped to improve the overall taste, but more integrated moisture would have elevated the sandwich. The atmosphere during our Saturday lunch visit was quiet, with only a few other patrons. The background music, described as "old style and boring," didn't contribute much to the ambiance. Furthermore, we noted that our table wasn't perfectly clean upon arrival, requiring a quick wipe-down. Despite these minor drawbacks, our overall impression of PitHouse Mediterranean Kitchen...
Read morePackaging for to-go orders is the main topic in this review.
The food provided by Pita House is exceptional. Their timely service is organized and second-to-none. However, the biggest issue the to-go orders; the packaging is ineffective in preventing spillage of liquids. A few years back, my brother was carrying one of the packages in the car and it leaked meat juice on his pants. This year, about a week ago, my brother ordered to-go for a family occasion with several packages of meat in the trunk of the car. Unfortunately, the same issue occurred where the packages leaked meat juice in the trunk of the car. The car had a stench for about 5 days until I had to spend $80 to detail the car (I have tried other de-odorizing methods before then). I don't want to just complain about the issue, but rather provide a solution to help your business and your customers.
I am not very familiar with the packaging other than it is packed into aluminum containers and usually there is a significant amount of juices from the meat in the packaging. Perhaps the amount of liquid in the package should be reduced or probably nonexistent as the meat is usually ordered the same day as the event. Or maybe there is a more spillage-proof packaging out there that is different than your traditional packaging; maybe use plastic containers that have pre-made seals rather than the aluminum lids that are manually sealed.
I hope you consider improving your packaging after this review. Thank you for your time and...
Read moreWhen you call the restaurant to make an order, the person you speak to is totally rushing and often gets things wrong. They tend to be a bit non-customer service oriented. When you place the order and ask for example to pick it up say an hour later, they actually put the order through right away and just let it wait for you. An hour later when you pick it up it will be at the cold end. Although the food is generally okay, the appetizers are not that good and if you order a small plate of any appetizer you'll pay $2.65 and the container that you'll get is extremely small, I mean extremely small like the ones you'll get for salsa or sauce. I measure the weight against the price and you don't want to know how much you'll be paying per pound, just like how Jewels and other place sell, it's just way over priced and a rip off. I called them to express my discomfort with the whole thing and the one who picked up the phone was extremely arrogant and refused to acknowledge the fact that what they're charging for this little tiny container is just...
