It would be impossible to list the myriad wonderful aspects of Sweet Mickey's in a review, so really my advice is just to go. If you need more details I'll just throw out a few telling anecdotes. On my recent stop in for holiday gift sweets, I witnessed: Randy, the owner, happily scheme with a mother who wanted to hide some scavenger hunt sweets around the shop for her unknowing children that would (theoretically) clue their way there; An adult regular who walked in a little out of breathe because she needed a quick treat for the bus she was about to be late for; Randy explaining how their gift cards (Sweet Bucks?) come in $1 increments because a dollar will actually go pretty far there, especially in younger hands, all the while encouraging selection by sampling first! Most of this happened in one surge, yet everyone was somehow treated like family walking through the door. The treats speak for themselves. I couldn't be happier with every dollar I've...
Read moreAn adorable vintage candy shop, recalling the archetypal image of main street USA. Play just among the narrow streets and old brick buildings of downtown Ballard, it feels appropriate and soothing. everyone working here was extraordinarily pleasant and generous, and they encouraged everyone to wander around the shop and see all the rustic delicious treats available. I found myself particularly drawn to a block of maple fudge, that I found so charmingly delicious that I ate the entire thing by the time I returned to my apartment on the other side of Seattle. I felt like an overly ambitious 7 year old, but I have no regrets. The prices are on the high side for me, but they are nothing in particularly special in seattle, and they are more reasonable than many of the other shops in Ballard. If you have the chance, stay longer than I did and enjoy the atmosphere, which evokes the feeling of a vintage slice of turn of the...
Read moreThis is one of the cutest candy shops I've ever seen. I love the layout. As you enter, it's candy drinks on your right followed by a wall of pick & mix style options from all over America & Europe, to the very back looked like some chocolates, to your left, unique and cute gift baskets for a number of occasions, and behind that the shop owner at the display and checkout counter, featuring in-house made truffles and fudge.
I stuck to the pick&mix because for example there were candies from Italy & Canada I wanted to re-try, but also unique flavors I'd never imagined before such as "spicy Mango" which literally tasted like someone melted pepper and mixed it into the gummy. It's delicious if you're into interesting flavors. They had more traditional flavors as well like strawberry, grape, etc.
The owner is polite and complimented my smile, so there's no way to add another star, because I can't but...
