My wife and I consulted a number of flooring contractors and we chose McCrorie's Carpet One in Sequim to do our flooring. They offered a special where they promised to pay the sales tax on our contract if we accepted their bid and paid 1/2 by end of March 2018. We did. Since this contractor was doing the downstairs hardwood, bathroom tile (floor and shower), and upstairs carpet along with the stairs we kept them updated on the progress of our build telling them the estimated start date of July 1st.
Though I could write a book detailing the excuses and delays created by material order delays along with delays caused by inefficient scheduling of in-house contractors resulting in the hiring of 3rd party contractors, some of which McCrories had never used before, I'll just tell you that the entire process of completing the flooring/tile/carpet/kitchen backsplash TOOK MORE THAN 6 MONTHS for this company to complete.
To put this into context the average product home takes 3-4 months to complete but sometimes up to 6 months, so it’s certainly extraordinarily irresponsible for a company to take 6 months to complete just this part of the total build for a new home.
Taking 6 months should have been an embarrassment for this company. But not so. Instead they simply held us accountable along with our contact at McCrories, the salesman, Dennis, who quit or was reassigned, almost immediately after our job got delayed. From that point on, McCrories took the attitude that if it wasn't written down then they wouldn't do it. Suddenly our jovial, let’s get it done and I’m sorry for the delays, sale’s person/manager was replaced by a corporate hard line.
For example, after the completion of the glue down engineered floor I pointed out smudges that the installer said was on the veneer of the wood and not caused by glue smudging during the installation. On his way out the door and after reviewing the install Dennis assured me that he'd send in a cleaning team because "it's a new floor and it should look like a new floor". After the completion of the entire job in January, 2019, I asked McCrories to make good on that oral contract. The manager, Bill, told me that it wasn't on the written contract and that "in new build situations, the general contractor typically hires a cleaning company to do final cleaning". Another promise made by Dennis was the provision of a soap shelf in the guest bath shower as part of the tiling job. Again Bill told me no dice.
As a parting shot, after starting in July and finishing in January and creating delays in areas like plumbing, electrical and finish trim, I received a bill about $4000 more expensive than what had remained on the original contract after paying ½ up front. We had to contact them and fix their accounting error. So up until the end this company simply couldn't get it right! Imagine if we'd not kept track of what we owed and simply overpaid the final bill.
I offered to forgive this experience with them if they would simply come clean the floor and provide the soap shelf as promised. Bill was disinterested.
I will never use this company for anything again. You can not trust their promises and they lied to us up to the final installation of the backsplash tile in the kitchen. After receiving our tile in November, they told us their installer was booked until January 1st so we trusted them on that. When we confirmed the job at the end of December, they did manage to provide a tiler for the 2nd of January but, once again, it was a third party contractor. Why, then, were we waiting 2 months? It just begs credulity that a company can operate this way and still be in business.
All I can do is truthfully offer my experience with this contractor. The rest...
Read moreWE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS. Flooring choice was excellent. The install crew, Nick and Dominic were outstanding. Evan was the salesperson that did the initial contact and measuring. At first he promised ongoing contact and follow up as needed. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. Evan placed the order for the flooring which was 1/4" grade/thickness, the flooring it was to replace (entire home) was 1/2" grade/thickness. Evan did not pick this up even though he had seen the thickness when looking at floor mounted electrical receptacles. Major alterations to the door jams, baseboards and stairs had to made to accommodate this error. Evan was no where to be found when trying to resolve these issues. Vincent, another McCrorie employee, followed up on resolution and plan to proceed. Evan also promised to use McCrorie staff to move furniture out of house for demo and install and move it back in after completion. This aspect was also dropped and not communicated. Vincent gave us an independent mover and we paid them directly after several days delay at almost 3x the original estimate for McCrorie resources. We would not recommend this business for its lack of management follow up and involvement and exceptionally poor...
Read moreWe moved to Sequim at the end of March when the virus was just getting started. We purchased a home that needed a lot of upgrading. Our first call was to McCrorie Carpet One and we were fortunate enough to have Jason Thompson as our McCrorie contact. Jason is the best thing that has happened to us since we moved to Sequim. We are so fortunate to have met him – he has been so helpful in advising us and providing us such great service. I don't think contractors understand the value of returning phone calls or emails in a timely manner – Jason certainly does. Jason referred us to sub-contractors who were amazing too – Randy did our wood floors and Michael is helping us with countertops. Michael, like Jason returns calls and gives great advice and he is patient with us when we change direction. We are nearing the end - this is the last project on the house - but if we have anything else come up that we want to do – Jason will be the first one I reach out! Even if it isn’t something McCrorie does, I know that I can count on Jason to tell us who we should do business with and I totally trust his judgement and...
