This place used to be awesome. I used to drive there all the way from Forks just for lunch. Their food is really good. However, the service is gone so far downhill that I will not be coming back. Used to eat here once a month or so. This new digital phone ordering system they have in place, has completely done away with any service that you may expect to get.
They want you to order from a QR code. Of course, they want your cell phone number and personal information before you can do this.
Of course, they're happy to tell you that you can go order in person from the bar. However, they instruct you to go take a picture of the menu with your cell phone. Then, you place an order at the bar. Cocktail? Oysters for appetizer? Couple sandwiches? Should be easy enough. However, you have to pay for everything, before they place your order. How about the automated suggested tip buttons on their screen? They ask you for tip for their terrible service, before your first drink even comes out. Food comes out to your table in any they prepare it. Hoping for your appetizers early? No luck. Hoping to have a drink with your food? Maybe if you're lucky. Our drinks came out after we were three quarters done with our meal. Need some ketchup or some cocktail sauce? Better get out your phone and order it from their digital menu.
We like to try two separate kinds of oysters. Ordered six of each. In years gone by, we would be billed for a dozen. Not anymore, app charges you for two half dozen. That's an extra four or five bucks. When our oysters arrived, we only got 11. Want to complain? Unfortunately there's no button in the QR code ordering menu for that. Besides, they already had our money long before we sat down. Things are slightly better when they're slow. Because you can talk to an actual employee and they will help you. When they're busy, good luck getting any service at all.
I'm sure I will get some apologetic response from the owner, telling me that this is a new system that they're trying out. I'm sure she will try to play off the service we received as a fluke. But they've been doing it for well over a year, and it gets worse and worse every time. I'm totally understand that employee wages are so high right now, but our meal for lunch was $115. At these rates, I would expect there to be enough employees to service your guests. There are plenty of other reviews griping about this new ordering system. If you sit around having lunch and a drink here, you will hear plenty of gripes from other patrons as well. It really is a shame, because the food is delicious, But the service is so much better at a McDonald's Self ordering kiosk, And there, you're not asked to tip 20% of your $115 lunch meal before you've even been served your drinks.
I don't even have a problem with your rates. Our lunch is always $115. Two drinks, two sandwiches, a dozen oysters. I knew what they were going to be before we ever go in. My girlfriend and I always have the same thing. It's $115 every time we're there. I was happy to pay $115 for your delicious food once upon a Time, because it was a dining experience. An afternoon out. A date. Now, it always leaves a bad taste in our mouths when we're there.
I hope one day you can remedy this decision, as you are chasing away your customers. I've enjoyed eating oysters...
Read moreGosh, what do you write when you just had one of the best meals of your life? Food isn't fancy but it is honest and downright good! Just paid twice as much in one of the fanciest seafood restaurants in Seattle and the food wasn't half as good. Oysters were spot on and not the slightest bit fishy. I'm a huge clam chowder fan and have been known to drive hours to get a bowl from my favorite restaurants. The chowder at the Salty Girl was one of the best that I've ever had. Period. My wife also got a crab melt which she said was really good but it wasn't my favorite, but only because I'm not a huge fan of melts. Amount of crab on said melt was impressive though. If you like good food, do yourself a favor and go here. Won't break the bank and the food is certainly something to write about. Btw, we're going back tomorrow for seconds to try other parts of the menu. Wish we were staying longer in Sequim so we could work our way through the entire menu. This place is truly that good. UPDATE: I must confess that my wife and I shortened a couple of hikes in Olympic National Park so we could make it back to Salty Girls a couple more times before we left Sequim (pronounced "Skwim" we later found out). Anyway we did our best to try everything we could on the menu before we had to leave town. On subsequent visits we had the "Tuna Poke Bowl," the "Salty Steamer," the "Dungeness Crab," and the "Sea-sar" salad, not to mention the obligate raw oysters and clam chowder. Our only disappointment was that we would soon be flying back to the midwest, home for us but distant from Salty Girls. Our favorite dishes were the chef-selected oyster flights, the clam chowder, the poke bowl and the Dungeness crab. Go with any or all of these and you'll find yourself writing a google review late at night. It also should be noted that my wife and I have traveled the world looking for the perfect dish. It doesn't necessarily have to be fancy or expensive, it just has to be good. We've kept a fluid top 10 list over the years, ranking all the best food we'd eaten and where we'd found it, but the list had been static for over 5 years. The top 10 seemed to be impenetrable after so many places traveled and so many restaurants visited, that is until we sat down at Salty Girls. Not only did Salty Girls make it onto our top 10 list but comfortably wedged itself in the middle of some of our favorite culinary memories from around the world. Thank you Salty Girls for giving us another...
Read moreWe really wanted to like this place! We had been craving oysters for a while and the reviews here clearly show that it is a popular place.
When we arrived, the restaurant was about half full. We sat outside, a few of the tables were dirty but luckily we found a clean one. We ordered from our phone as instructed: a beer, a Bloody Mary, mussels Provençal, extra bread ($4 for 4 slices) and a dozen oysters. When ordering, you’ll be prompted to tip 20% which we found a bit much for a restaurant where the servers don’t take the orders, don’t check up on you, don’t bring any water, etc. They basically are just there to walk any drinks and plates out to the table. We manually changed this to 15% which we found a better reflection of the servers work.
The Bloody Mary came out first, which was tasty. Then the mussels & extra bread. We found the lemon in the mussel broth a bit overpowering but otherwise it was tasty. The bread was delicious! The beer came out sometime in between. We soon finished up our mussels but the oysters still had not made it. The oyster bar seemed clearly busy so we were patient. After a while, when the oysters still had not shown up yet, we were finally able to flag down a server (they are hard to get ahold of) and asked her to check on our oysters. It had been 45 minutes since we put in the order. I think they might have served our oysters to a different table.
The server we flagged down fortunately took care of us quickly after we let her know about the missing dish. The oysters were pretty good, we had one fishy one and a couple of them were a bit sandy but overall they were good. The mignonettes were okay, we had a classic vinegar one which was good but nothing special and an Asian-style one which was interesting but for our taste overpowered the oysters a bit. We would have wished to have some lemons served with the oysters.
For 2 people we paid just over $100. The food quality seems appropriately priced but considering the low service model and the hectic atmosphere, it seems to be on the slightly steeper end. We’re happy we were able to satisfy our oyster cravings but probably...
