I sold my 1oz gold bar and it was a huge disappointment. I asked the young man how close to spot price he would be willing to purchase the bar. He stated that he had to "Call his dad to find out." After a few phone calls I was offered $1800. I asked what was the reasoning for it being so low since spot price is over $2000 currently and if he would be willing to bargain higher. I was then told that "They have plenty of gold currently" and that "Gold is at its historical high and isn't in high demand right now."
Last week I tried selling the same 1oz bar and was offered $1950. With hindsight, I should have taken this offer knowing I was going to be lowballed even harder. If I wasn't in need of the money I wouldn't have followed through with this deal. At the end of it I was then preached to by this individual about how I should instead be investing in silver lol I guarantee this shop is going to sell the gold for a premium on top of the spot price.
