This was a unique and strange dining experience. We were meeting two other people at the end of the lunch rush (a table for four), and told to let the host know when the other two arrived. Meanwhile, other groups were seated ahead of us. About eight minutes later when the other two arrived (letting the host know the other couple was parking made no difference), we then had to wait for five or ten more minutes for another table to open up. I've never had that happen before.
When we were seated, we were immediately visited by someone not our server who asked what we would like to drink. When I say immediately, we hadn't even had time to pick the menus up off of the table, much less look at them. And when we had no clue what to order, the employee stood there waiting on us to make a decision instead of coming back later. When I asked about a beer (not ordering, only asking) she returned with it minutes later. Again, strange.
Another first for me: One of the four meals was ready before the other three and was brought out and set on the table. It was another five or ten minutes (seemed like longer since it smelled delicious) before the other three meals were brought out. Anyone who has worked in a restaurant knows this is a cardinal sin.
The food was amazing and the portions were lavish. But all we could talk about was what a strange experience this was. Writing this review days later, I'm still shaking my head. The food deserves a great rating, but I don't think I'd...
Read moreI'll start by saying this review is based on MY breakfast plate on my 2nd visit to the Oak Table. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. Staff was great but the food was not at all. I ordered the potato pancakes, a side of bacon and a lavender Arnold Palmer. The potato pancakes were just over $15 for I think maybe 6 silver dollar sized pancakes that were about as thick as 2 ply toilet paper. No crunch. No flavor. If I took the whole plate of potato pancakes and put them in a measuring cup it would have filled about a 1/3 measuring cup and I think that is being generous, maybe closer to 1/4 cup. I mention the price because my dad for less than 3 dollars more got a huge omelet with a large side of pancakes. The bacon is advertised in its own section of the menu as extra thick cut bacon from a local place in Seattle weighing in at half a pound. When that plate arrived it was literally crazy....4 pieces of bacon that was barely thicker than my very thin potato pancakes. I actually am not sure I have seen thinner bacon. For $9 this was a really bad choice on my part and a really poor representation on theirs. Lastly the lavender Armold Palmer had no lavender flavor to it whatsoever. Very disappointed. If this was my only experience here I would not go back. My husband's eggs Benedict was very bland also. Not impressed at all and with the prices these days if you aren't producing consistently high quality product then you will lose...
Read morePotato Pancakes PSA: DO NOT GET THEM. I was excited when I saw potato pancakes on the menu. Grandma used to make them and I always get them when I see them on a menu and this is the first time I’ve been disappointed.
For $17 I received greasy, thin, bland potato sadness. The only flavor they held was the grease they were cooked in (not even salt or pepper or “nutmeg and other seasonings” as described) and everything about these were disappointing. They were not as described, but the applesauce was good. I ate a couple because I was hungry and on the move. I didn’t want to complain because I was tired and not in the mood.
The bacon was good, but also not as described. There’s a callout on the menu about how special their bacon is and how they have a specific butcher cut it extra thick. It was like most bacon you get at a diner but costs $9 for a side order.
I will say that I was warmly welcomed and treated well while I dined in the charming restaurant. And even though I’m upset to have spent $35 in about 30 mins and left hungry and disappointed, I would actually consider trying it again. All the other dishes I saw coming out looked great. “NO TO POTATO PANCAKES, please.”
I normally don’t like to give negative reviews, but people and the establishment need to know that some attention should called out to...
