I have a business breeding birds, and I often meet clients outside the store to drop off birds that people have reserved from me. This reservation usually happens months in advance and then the person meets me to take their pet.
I ask people to meet me at Petco because I hope that if they have any last minute needs for their bird, they will be able to find it at the store.
I have done this many times and never had an issue. I also shop frequently at Petco in person nd online. I even bought a fairly expensive ball python here. Most of the staff have been very kind to me.
Unfortunately today I think Tammy ruined this relationship by coming outside as I WAS STILL SPEAKING TO MY CLIENTS and reprimanded me for āselling reptiles right in front of the storeā and informed me that I had to do so in a distant part of the parking lot. Mind you, I have never actually sold anything there. Everything is just a drop off. Iām not opening my trunk and hanging a sign that says āanimals for saleā and handing them out to the first people with cash to come along. I did swipe a card today⦠for a tiny bag of bird food that is a brand Petco doesnāt even carry.
My husband had planned to go into the store to get some supplies for our fish and reptiles, but Tammy ensured that we didnāt do that either with her poor attitude. Youād think she could at least find a polite way to ask us to do things differently than just saying āyou CANT do this!ā
But thatās okay. Thereās petsense in port Angeles who price matches and lots of online options. It might be less convenient but I donāt want to spend my money where Iām not welcome. Thanks for letting us...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you can go somewhere else you should. Most of the staff albeit nice are really strange people who don't quite get it.
The prices are higher than most places. It's a small town and depending on your pets you may be stuck having to go here but try to make it a last option. Amazon has most of the same stuff for less with lots of reviews so you don't waste your time returning stuff at the store.
My biggest complaint by far is the fish department. The people that work there seem to think they are fish tank gurus and get more than a lil defensive if you disagree with them. They grill you about your tank and assume they know your entire home/aquarium situation. Leave the egos at home. When a customer tells you thank you for your opinion but I disagree, that should be the end of it. Period.
I shouldn't get a lecture about how much experience they have if I disagree with them. I had to be kinda pushy with her just to get her to sell me the fish. She also ended up helping someone else, before bagging my fish, with their stuff because she was mad I disagreed with her.
What was suppose to be a fun trip with the kids to get fish ending up with kids almost in tears because this gal didn't want to me to go against her opinion. I'm pretty damn sure your job isn't to tell customers what they can and cannot purchase. I would imagine the manager wouldn't be thrilled employees were discouraging sales....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis review is specifically for the fish care / aquatic plants. I am a bit of a hobbyist aquarist with multiple tanks, all planted. I came into the store for the first time and was in all honesty deeply saddened by how they treat their betta fish.
I'm an Oregon transplant who was spoiled by my last Petco, where they had numerous beautiful plants and a very devoted employee who watched over their bettas.
A lot of betta fish were dead and decomposing / visibly on their last legs in their cups, and their feeder goldfish tank had dead fish littering the floor. I went for plants and found all of their plants in their planted tank to pretty much be dead or looking terrible.
Even their tubed aquarium plants were mostly kept in the dark, which (of course) killed most of the plants.
The rest of the store looked clean and cared for, and I had no other issues. But, the live plants and how they treat their betta fish is ROUGH.
The treatment of the fish varies a lot based on locations, and this is probably one of the worse Petcos in terms of fish care that I've been to on the West Coast. I blame corporate for not instituting bigger cup sizes / better conditions for the fish, and not the employees who are doing their best to care for fish that are not given the proper conditions to thrive in the first place.
I won't be returning...
