Look, I'm not one to usually look in the mirror and say, "Hot Damn", but after an appointment with Matt at Death, Taxes, and Frizz.... Hot Damn!

Not only were the Vibes? Immaculate. at the Sharpsburg shop, the appointment itself was such a dream. Good music, great vintage antiques, excellent conversation... and a haircut that will make you feel good even after you go home, mess it up, and try desperately to get "That Post-Appointment Look" back. This was my first barber shop experience after many years of salons, and it will not be my last by far.

Matt excels at drawing out what you need from anybody; I'm the type who shows up with forty slightly different pictures and wants the common thread but doesn't know what it is, and my partner shows up with a "whatever looks cool but is kind of like __", and Matt was able to deftly navigate each of our needs with haircuts that turned out amazing as well as providing us with the styling products and recommendations needed to keep looking sharp for the days after.

Between the expert hair knowledge, the non-gendered menu offerings (short/medium/long, yes please!), the great atmosphere, and the gregarious conversationalist (if you want/companionable silence if not) who is Matt, Death Taxes & Frizz will be our choice for hair for a long time to come....

I had a cut by Sire, and it's obvious to me he's a heavyweight talent. We had a discussion about what I wanted in the cut, and he took his time making sure we were on the same page. Sire cleaned up my undercut then methodically combed my hair so he could figure out what scissorwork on the top would best suit me. After cutting the top, he styled my hair with a matte cream and pomade cocktail which he finished too with a blow-dry to lock in the look. The service was premium. Sire is a cool dude with nasty, slick skills. Definitely going back to him and definitely recommend him to anybody looking for a fresh...

Matt is an excellent professional and gave me a superb haircut with excellent service. Highly recommended!

I generally give barbers some vague directions and he was the only one ever to really ask follow-up questions and make sure he really understood what I meant. It really showed me that he cares about giving the customer what they want, not just finishing another job and moving on to the next guy.

He was also very polite and approachable, we had interesting conversation and he seemed to be overall really thoughtful. The place was also super clean and the decor is on point. Will definitely be...
