The food here is great WHEN they get your order right , I've been ordering from the sharpsburgh store for over a decade and haven't had Too Many issues other than overcooked chicken Or missing or wrongly added condiments I rarely complained about the one time I did cost me my favorite buffalo chicken pie and sandwich I will admit that I went about it the wrong way when I reordered it online and instead of paying again I gave back the sandwich's they made wrong and refused to pay Since then I've ordered a few times one of which they called back saying I had to pay with a credit card no problem I did Tonight they called me I missed the call I called them back when I noticed they called they sent me to hold and disconnected me Twice, I thought they were on the way waiting 10 minutes before calling back to them telling me they canceled my order because I try to slip through the cracks with online ordering? Like I said I been ordering for 10 years got confirmation emails going back years Never Once had a discrepancy with my payment and our order is around 100$ easy we Always paid cash and we always tip well but They Do Have my card information saved so why they didn't run it if that was the problem ? Now it's closing time so they no longer want my business ?? Because they were wrong ??? I don't know who they have working on their night shift but they should really reevaluate their staff . Because the only thing that slipped through the cracks of my online ordering are the points they claim to give you when you order for bonus coupons because they don't. I gave them 4 for the food because they have good food when they get the order right ,depending on what time or who's working that the service just sucks . That's why I could only...
Read moreI'm not in Sharpsburg very often, but I was craving a calzone while passing by, so why not give Gino Bros a try? After all, there aren't too many pizza shops in Sharpsburg when compared to other areas in Pittsburgh. I got their regular cheese calzone (build your own) and the Oreo cheesecake.
The calzone was very good. When I first got the box, I felt a little disappointed with the portion. However, after actually eating it, the portion was okay for the price. There's definitely other places that give better bang for your buck, though. It's $13 for only 10 inches.
The crust was lovely. It had a great dusting of cheese on top. Plus, I love that it was still a bit crispy when I got my order. The crunch elevated it. There was a fair amount of cheese inside. A bit heavier on the mozzarella and provolone and less ricotta than in other places. Tomato sauce was inside the calzone but didn't make it soggy. It was on the sweeter side and there wasn't too much of it.
The dessert was definitely not their strength. It tasted like a very standard food service cheesecake, not a delicious, creamy homemade variety. It was oddly bland and lacked the sweetness I expected; plus its texture was a bit off too. The crust was okay, but I would recommend skipping dessert (especially since this was $6).
All in all, this was a great calzone. It was a bit smaller than in most other places, but it's high quality. If you're in Sharpsburg, it's worth a try. Just order dessert from...
Read moreThis is a revision of my earlier review (5 stars..). This IS NOT the same place it was when it was further towards Aspinwall. (The original location is now a Chinese Resturant) Sure, It's fancier and now has booze (who cares? there are actual bars within FEET of the place.and brew-pubs nearby...). I bought 3 "whole" Italian hoagies there (At $11.99 each), Prepaid (With a TIP!) and received three sandwiches that were smaller than the "footlong" from Subway. When I inquired about it, the cashier said that they were out of the "long bread" and just added extra "meat" - They never told me this when I ordered. He then got the "owner" to "talk to me". (I doubt it was the owner, after 30 years in retail - customer service, I know that any random shmuck they find in the "back" can magically become the "owner" or "manager",LOL) - The "Owner" snatched the bag out of my hand, and said "Have a nice day, Now leave!". This all was after a 45 minute wait in the first place. I did get a cash refund. I took said refund to La Nova Pizzeria a few blocks away and not only was able to get 3 ACTUAL WHOLE hoagies, It took 20 minutes start to finish....AND was $8.00 CHEAPER on the order. The La Nova hoagies were every bit as good as Gino Bros!!! If I'm in Sharpsburg, La Nova will get my business, If I really need a beer with my pizza, Caliente is right up the road...
