Family Dollar — Local services in Sharpsburg

I will say the staff tries its best. It currently seems like it has no corporate support and that people most likely are not paid what they should be. In the past year it has gone downhill drastically. They are frequently closed or have limited hours. Items are expired, there is trash everywhere, you see items that should be frozen just refrigerated and vice versa as well as random items that aren't refrigerated/frozen in those areas. There are often whole shelves that are empty and also product on carts just waiting to be shelved. I was shopping for a neighbor and 3 different products I picked up were empty boxes. When I gave them to an employee so that me or someone else who came after wasn't accused of stealing they said thank you and they know its a problem. One employee who already had a black eye/gash on her head was dozing off behind the counter while checking someone out. I couldn't locate anyone else to help this employee and I was concerned for her safety. Again, some employees are great and I do believe all are trying their best. This has been a store that has been well needed in the community as well as has been a place I have frequented for years for family member's shopping needs. Stopped in just for some snacks and juice. Found an open can of soda in the clearance bins and mentioned it to a staff member, who told me it "must belong to another employee," as if that's a good excuse for leaving an open drink on the sales floor.

A few minutes later, I tried to get another employee's attention to ask about a price inconsistency on some juice I'd been considering (sale tag higher in price than original tag), waiting patiently until she was done talking to someone else. She finally looked over and snapped, "what do you need?" I pointed out the tag and asked which was correct, so she (literally) tore it off the shelf and said, "What, are you the store inspector? You just nitpick every little thing."

This store is a rip off. I attempted to purchase $23 worth pf items but their system was "down" and my debit card supposedly "did not go through" - I left the store without the items and Lo, and behold - The WERE deducted and they ARE on my statement. The VERY same cashier two days later asked me for a recept, Knowing damned well thar there is none as the "system was down" and I left everything there. She (and a manager) claims to this day that it never happened, even though my bank statement shows THEIR ADDRESS! Even after showing this, They demand a receipt that they KNOW cannot exist.
