An unusual spot came up when I Googled "Coffee near me". I am on a quest to find a new coffee shop where I can have a tasty mug, people watch and work. At the top of the results from Google was Sky Nursery. It's been a long cold winter and I have not felt the need for plants in a while. With traces of the warmth of Spring in the forecast, I decided to pack up my computer and check it out. It's a short walk for me down the Interurban trail. Most of the time I have to dodge cars pulling into the giant parking lot. This time I went with the flow and turned in. The coffee served from a cute wooden shed out in the greenhouse area. There are a few tables by the window that are warmed by powerful heaters overhead. I ordered a latte from a nice woman with blue hair, then set up my computer on one of the tables. There is wifi, but no power outlets. Good thing my battery was fully charged. There were a couple of other groups at other tables, but they were not so busy that I had to wait too long for my latte. I like a big ceramic mug with foam art, but that is not what they do there. I got the usual paper cup with a plastic lid. Not a deal breaker and the coffee was tasty. I got a cool idea for a short story, so the next hour was focused on my writing. When I finished up, my 20 oz cup was empty. I packed up, threw away the empty cup and started a tour of the nursery. The shelves in the greenhouse area were full of flowers, vegetables and decorative plants. They all looked healthy and triggered many ideas for the garden this year. There was also a wide variety of pots, planters and trellises. Unfortunately, the prices for these items are way out of my budget. On the way to the outdoor plant area, there is a wall of whimsical statues. Again, the prices were outrageous. I'm not a big fan of garden statues anyway, so I passed them by. In the outdoor area there is an information booth where a nice older man waited to field questions. I asked a few questions about roses, mostly because he was being ignored by the rest of the customers. I have a spot that I want to use for roses and he gave me some good ideas. I looked around for the bulk items like potting soil, bark, mulch, fertilizer, etc. Instead of a stack of big bags, there is a shelving unit with samples where you can order what you want. Cute. Inside the building are all the usual things you would expect - seeds, chemicals, tools, and more decorations. It was fun browsing. Prices are high, but everything seems to be high quality. Time to get to work...
Read moreThis negative review is not for the nursery itself, but rather for the rude cashier we encountered and the unhelpful store manager.
The nursery is very well maintained and products are of high quality. As first time customers, we were quite happy to find such a nice nursery close to where we live.
However, the happy story ended when we checked out. We had been waiting in line patiently for our turn. Finally, a cashier finished with her customer and I saw her waving her hand, so we moved forward to the register. Instead of saying hi to us, the first words she said were "Were you waiting in the center line before you came up?". We were quite shocked by the question and didn't know what to think. So we just said yes we had been waiting and we were the first in line.
While she was scanning our stuff, we started to grasp what she was accusing us of and I asked if it's a common practice for her to ask that question to all customers. She gave some lame excuses that made us even more upset. We asked to talk with her manager, a lady named Brady.
After waiting five minutes or so, Brady showed up. We asked her the same question: if it's a common practice for her store's cashiers to ask all customer such a question or we are the only ones being singled out for such a question. She acknowledged this is a common practice. However, while we were waiting for her, there had been at least 5 customers checking out and none was asked the question. When challenged with that observation, she started looking uneasy, and said we were cutting what she wanted to say. We felt we had been wasting enough of our time on this unhappy encounter and said we are not interested in hearing any more excuses and will just leave a review.
Well, this is a very accurate recount of our experience at this nursery and our review as promised. I don't think we will ever set our feet in this nursery risking being...
Read moreI’ve gone to sky nursery for about a year now and have bought my blueberry, raspberry and all my perennials there. My husband gets the military discount and he had been out of town while I had shopped a few times at the nursery. The cashier informed me that I can just bring a copy of his ID in which I finally did. The cashiers and managers gave me such a hard time with this it was pouring customer service. Finally they told me that I need to have him present so I left and my husband and I showed up together and he showed them the proof of the military. Then the gal starts going down through the receipts (I had 2 of them) and only giving me the discount on the full price items. Both receipts were a totally of $200. They need to advertise there military discount different if this is the case. Any other time I’ve been in there I’ve gotten the 10% off the total regardless of the sale items. The whole point of this long review is the attitudes I received regarding this military discount. It was VERY disappointing. Won’t be doing any...
