I took my sweet, sweet 84 yr old grandma to this store as she wanted to she what some of her pearls were worth and ask about a possible restringing. They were more than 60 years old and a wedding gift from her ex-husband - so obviously containing a lot of sentimental value - as explained to the owners. While "inspecting" the pearls, the owner was slamming them down on the counter and flinging them around carelessly - so rough that both my grandma AND his wife asked him to be more gentle. The worst part was this man started condescending my grandma and her pearls by calling them "cheap" and worth "next to nothing". EVEN IF they are not worth much, why would you talk like that about such a sentimental item and a family heirloom?? As I was seeing my grandma's heart break, I had had enough and finally spoke up and said something like "ok ok, we get it". Then the owner got all big in my face and said "do we have a PROBLEM??" I needed to have my diamond wedding band resized and found Unique Design close to my home and stopped by to inquire about it. I was very surprised to see so many beautiful pieces of jewelry in the store and the gentleman behind the counter informed me that they were all his designs that he made. I was floored. I had no idea such talent existed in Sarasota. The gentleman explained that he had several people ahead of me and that it may take a week to complete the resizing of my ring, but I received a call the next day (today) letting me know it was ready to pick up. I was so happy to see that he took the extra step of cleaning it and making it look brand new.
