Ordered a sofa and loveseat online. Received notification the next day that despite being for sale online, they did not actually have the item in stock. Annoying, but okay. Their design consultant Emma suggested some "similar" sofas. No offense, but I looked at those and didn't choose them for a reason. Frankly they were ugly and more expensive than the set I had attempted to purchase (so they wanted more money from me for a less desirable product due to an error on their end). I stated I did not want these and to please refund me. Emma offered either a paper check or a refund to the card. I chose a refund to the card so it would not accrue interest. I was advised it would show up in 7-10 days.
12 days later, the refund still was not showing on my card. So I replied back to Emma asking her to please resolve this ASAP. Minutes later, I received a call from someone else at the store stating that I didn't see the refund on my card yet because a refund had not even been started. I was pretty shocked by this. That delves into scammer territory, frankly. He stated the refund hadn't been initiated because "the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing." Sorry but that's not really acceptable for larger purchases like furniture. I filed a dispute on my card just so I wouldn't be charged interest on this purchase that wasn't actually a purchase at all, but an attempted bait and switch.
The guy who called was very professional and apologetic, which is the reason this is 2 stars and not one, and he processed my refund (I assume anyway!) advising that it would take another 7-10 days since they never actually initiated the first one.
The moral of this story is - they need to get their website under control and have items removed that are no longer available (for context, when I found the same furniture at HOM furniture, they had it off the site within minutes of my purchase), and then when someone says they will refund you, they need to actually do it. At the beginning of this process, I was more than understanding. By the end, I am now peeved and will not shop at Montgomery's again. Which is a shame because I actually liked their stuff, and being a new homeowner, I am in the market for quite a bit of...
Read moreSome history: We had just moved to the area and our bank gave us a $1000 gift card to this place. We weren't sure we wanted to use it because taxes on "gifts" like this is horrible. Two months after we moved here we found out we were expecting. I needed a rocking lounge chair so we decided to use the gift card.
The service was awesome until they learned we were using the gift card then it seemed their excitement waived. Maybe it was coincidence, but all the sudden phone calls were more important, heck they even abruptly left us for another customer. Even as we were paying for the chair we were left to wait at least 45-60min while they helped another customer. Then when we finally finished the purchase they sent us on our way with very little information on cleaning or upkeep on the chair. (Leather) Well, beside the fact that we could purchase an extremely over priced bottle of leather cleaner. Oh and let us talk about price.
As I mentioned above, we had a $1000 gift card. We still had to fork out more than $1000 MORE! Looking at their prices was jaw dropping. I still don't know what possessed us to purchase this chair. Ignorant fools I guess. Especially taking into fact that that the chair isn't really worth $1000. Honestly, since then my husband has needed to replace his chair and it was $300-400 at F______ M____ and it is doing better than my $2000+ chair at the same point in age!
The chair aka product: It still functions mechanically but the cushions gave out by the end of the first year. Now I get to enjoy a wood board at my lower back. Oh so comfortable! (Not.) The coloring has long since faded and instead of looking the 2-3yrs old it looks 10yrs old.
In my honest opinion, I would not recommend this store to my friends or family. If you are new to the area, don't be suckered in by promotions etc. Do your research and find an actual...
