This has to be one of, if not the most deplorable corporations in America. Smithsfield has been formally condemned for committing 7 THOUSAND environmental violations, torturing its pigs to death (quite literally) and compromising the health of the American public by creating the optimal breeding ground for H1N1. Furthermore, this company is recognised for feeding it's pigs (and by extension, consumers) with growth hormones and a cocktail of antibiotics, which have devastating affects on one's immune system. The WHO organisation, the CDC, and the American Public Health Association have all issued warnings about the dangers of Smithsfield's business practices, yet the company continues to thrive because this greed-driven enterprise has enough lobbying power to prevent law suits from being filed.
The insatiable demand for cheap bacon, ham and pork is what has given this company immunity from any type of law enforcement, and with public money, this beast just gets bigger and bigger. People need to get informed and they need to stand up to this enterprise, now! The best method, by far, is by boycotting (Tyson, btw, has committed offenses that are just as egregious!). Our desire for cheap meat, as it turns out, comes at a very high cost, and we need to examine our priorities. Which takes precedence, our ethics, sense of social responsibility, justice and health, or the cravings we have for cheap BLTs? The choices we make can bear long-term consequences, and supporting Smithsfield with your well-earned dollars will almost certainly produce ramifications that we'll be...
Read moreSmithfield Foods have created a wonderful fully-cooked hickory smoked spiral sliced half ham bone-in under their ‘Carando Classic Italian’ brand label. It’s in a heavy plastic cover and wrapped in a bright red Mylar that included a packet of ham glaze. After removing the wrappings, put the ham face-down in a pan, seal it with a double width of aluminum foil and bake it at 275. My 10 lb. required 2 hours. After removing from the oven, put it on its side and drizzle the glaze over the slices, separate them which I couldn’t do holding the iPhone and let it ooze inside the slices. Rest for 15 minutes and enjoy. Be sure and portion out slices for future meals and freeze in a zip lock. Close it mostly up, insert a straw in the lower portion of the bag and suck the air out, as it completely seals it tightly and prevents freezer burn, zip it closed and date the bag. The bonus is the bone that gives added flavor to Portuguese Kale soup, Pea soup or home-made baked beans. I was fortunate to buy mine at Market Basket @$1.49/lb. Right now they...
Read moreI thought I would save $0.50 and buy the knockoff Lunchable, aka the Smithfield Foods Armour "LunchMakers" offering. Instead I was the victim of a lunch crime. I am including a picture of the package when I first opened it. Yes, that absolute whisper of cheese was the sum total that came in a pizza lunch. I think somebody shook a bag of shredded cheese in the next room and this is what fell in. Also, there were only two small crusts whereas Lunchables gives you three. I don't even leave reviews for corporations but this was so comically awful, I just felt the need to document it. I do not believe you can improve so I won't ask you to "do better." May the snack gods have mercy...
