TL;DR :: Room requires you to remember where you found things. Story elements are mixed in with clues to make the lore feel more involved, but this causes clues to feel like throw aways because they're so story heavy. Rooms are high quality and very pretty. There was only ONE PERSON working the whole store by himself while we were there. He didn't say that he was by himself, but I could tell because it was busy and he was trying very hard to do everything all at once.
Escapology is a very corporatized escape room. You can tell by the quality of the lobby and the details on the rooms that is very well thought out and money has been spent. You can also tell by the fact that they run a skeleton crew. Only one person was working. One person checking people in, resetting rooms, giving hints, doing after photos, doing entry speeches. One guy. To be clear, if Escapology is reading this, you have a very quality employee working there. He was exceptional given how much he was trying to do, and if he wasn't by himself, whoever he had with him should be fired.
The room was very pretty, the sound design was nice. Everything was lore appropriate and felt very polished.
The puzzles weren't hard necessarily, but the problem was how the clues were presented. Important clues would be part of massive exposition dump letters that felt like throw away set dressing. This caused us to nearly fail the room because we didn't expect them to contain important clues until the very end when it became apparent that we had exhausted all the clues and what was left must hold the answers.
Another detractor was that the location you found a clue was very important. I've never found a room before where you needed to remember where something was found and what it was found with. We needed to remember that we found a flag in the same container as a letter and who's letter it was informed a later clue. This creates a situation where you feel like you've ruined the experience for yourself by not paying attention when MOST escape rooms don't require this kind of clue gathering. Things are found in a flurry in escape rooms and with multiple people finding things, it's hard to say if anyone will remember what was found with what and in which container it was found.
Overall, I can't really recommend Escapology. If you're picking a place to go, go somewhere else. If you find yourself there because someone else chose the venue, you'll probably have a fine time, if not a little frustrating. I just wouldn't choose to go...
Read moreI (31 years old) had a long day yesterday and spent 8 hours doing a training course so my brain was fried but I still wanted to enjoy some time with my young siblings (12 and 17 years old),especially because I am relocating very far away, very soon. And we haven’t been able to find a weekend to hangout in a while because of everyone’s schedules. We had never done an escape room together so we figured we would try one and finally could coordinate yesterday.
Im not one to complain too much about the quality of rooms or lack thereof bc I’m not a pro and have only been 3 times before this. And especially because I’m with my siblings, it’s really just about the enjoyment of doing something together whether we win or lose.
My complaint is for the young woman at the front desk. I didn’t catch her name but I was there from 6:30ish to 7:30pm on Saturday, October 26th. She was young, white and with blonde ponytail. At the end of the game, we were in good spirits despite thinking a couple of the clues were odd. We were going to leave and I turn back to ask about one of the riddles and she repeats it back to me and then repeats it again with a slow, condescending and annoyed tone and physical gesture like we were stupid. Im not sure why because I wasn’t complaining, I was asking in good spirits. We left and she didn’t even say bye or have a good night. I was going to let it go because I had already had a long day but then my 12 year old sister was the one that commented on it later about how she was disrespectful and talking to us like we were dumb. She said she wants to go back to escape room but not this location. So I’m leaving this review here and will start leaving them when I experience rude behavior because too many establishments get away too often with being rude to Black people in a ways that you can reasonably see they wouldn’t be otherwise. I think in this case it was a mix of being Black and me being perceived younger than I am. I couldn’t see this young woman speaking to someone my age and white that way but maybe there’s no shame nowadays. It shouldn’t be acceptable to speak to anyone like that regardless of race or age.
I had great customer service from Logan on the phone that day when I was changing the time of the reservation and the trainee at the end of the...
Read moreI'd rate this 3.5 if I could.
My friends and I have been here for multiple rooms, and they have been one of our favorite places to come previously. The rooms are normally very clean, well kept, and without too many broken things.
However, a group and I were in last Sunday and we were disappointed for the first time in our experience. The replacement lock in one of the rooms for something that was broken (which we were only told about after) severely disrupted our approach to solving clues in the room from the very beginning because the language on it was NOT clear. We also were getting spending time trying the code on our electronic door in our room and were not advised previously that there was a time-out for failed tries, which most places usually communicate. Some of the clues we received weren't necessarily helpful, as we are pretty sure they're premade and they were things we were already doing and not what we actually needed, which was also frustrating and cost us more time. Finally, we took a group photo when we left, and we were told it would be emailed to us, but I found out today after calling and not having received it that we had needed to opt in to marketing on our email in order to even get our group photo, so we were left with no group picture from this birthday outing.
Hoping that the owners see this feedback and consider making some changes in the...
