We go to to Burntwood often, we are almost always pleased. Our experience tonight ends that. This restaurant is suffering from a shortage of staff, nothing new in our post pandemic era, and no obvious manager presence. Some restaurants, even those of less status than BWT, only book what they can handle with the crew they can muster, a lesson Burnwood should take to heart. I have a rewards card that is my second, the first one a wore out five years ago. I make about 30+ visits a year. Prices are way up, it should be raise prices and give good service or keep the prices stable and cut back on quality. This restaurant has done both. I list tonight "death by a thousand cuts;" I work in Solon, very close to this restaurant, we arrived with reservations 15 minutes before the end of happy hour, we watched the action and hoped we would be greeted in time to put in a happy hour drink/appetizer order. Our wait person did make it, our FIRST contact, 12 minutes after we were seated, we know because we were watching while we waited, she had two very large tables and more around the corner where we could not observe. Our cocktail took forever to come out, but this is an issue plaguing BTW for a long time. I attribute our delay to the time it takes to make the new signature drink I ordered. I had the new smoked old fashioned cocktail which was awesome when i stopped at the bar a few days ago with a friend. Tonight, the drink was nicely smoked but noticeably weak. My wife ordered a happy hour appetizer and asked that it come out with my son's, and my dinner, instead, it came out right away. The appetizer my son and I shared, came out exactly four minutes before our dinner entrees arrived. We could not eat the appetizers anyway, because we had no silverware. I asked the young person greeting guests and cleaning tables to get us some set-ups, he agreed but did not show up with them for a long time. Our wait person stopped to check on us in the mean time and filled our need. I tried the BTW smash burger, good sized but rather bland. The usual excellent BTW fries were inedible tonight. Tough as shoe leather. At the end of our meal, I asked our server to take the fries to the kitchen and ask the chef to try them so he he knew what was being served, she offered to replace them but we declined we were done eating and had enough of BTW. I sent my rewards card with my credit card when it was time to pay the bill. Every time at Burntwood I do this and every time I get my receipt back and a separate printout showing my rewards status, This time, there was only a receipt. Our server checked on this and came back saying they don't do this anymore, "just check it on line." Sadly my wife, because of my agitation, stated that she will no longer go out to dinner anywhere every Saturday as we have for more years than I can remember. She likes to eat at home and I guess that is where I will be. I know that I am done with BTW until they get back to what we have grown...
Read moreWent to lunch with a party of 6. Prior to ordering, I asked the waitress if the buffalo chicken flatbread could be made without onions. She said everything was made to order and they could make it without onions. When she came back to take our order, I proceeded to order the buffalo chicken flatbread without onions. She asked if everything else was ok and I asked what else was on it because the menu only lists buttermilk ranch, cheddar cheese and red onions, she replied bleu cheese to which I said no bleu cheese or onions please. That was a red flag to me as well that not all ingredients are listed on the menu. Food came out and the very first bite of the flatbread had several large chunks of onions. We politely let the waitress know and she did offer to have it remade but my appetite was already ruined and everyone else had started eating so I declined. She was great and clearly felt bad so she said she would get the manager. Manager came over and defensively tried to say ‘the dip is made with onion powder’ and that’s just how it is to which I pointed at my plate with the spat out bite of food that very clearly had large chunks of onions in it. He was not very receptive or apologetic for the error and simply offered again to have it remade and I again declined. Onion powder does not produce large chunks of onions, sir. Our waitress was great, everyone else’s food was ok but the manager gets a 0/5 from me. Customer service was not present today. I do have a photo but I am not posting spat out food here. Happy to share it with the company,...
Read moreWas out kayaking with my father on ladue reservoir this afternoon and was absolutely ready to get some food in us after the paddle and baking in the sun. Decided we wanted to try and stop at a restaurant that would be relatively on our way back home. A quick search along the route and burntwood tavern made it to the top of our list.
We were seated quickly, the restaurant was virtually empty (it was around 3pm) except for a few parties sitting outside on the patio area.
The staff attended to us quickly, took out orders, and kept our drinks refilled very promptly. Appetizers arrived quickly (house salad for my dad, Angus sliders for us to share) he was happy with the house dressing and the sliders scratched the burger itch I wanted without having to order a full meal.
I ordered the harvest chicken salad and he ended up ordering the Angus burger (the slider was not enough to scratch that itch for him :) )
Food came quickly and hot. The marinade on the chicken was the first thing that hit my nose and it setup for an overall good (but perhaps a little small for the price) salad. The Angus burger was a proper size and came with a small basket of fries that ended up being perfect for us to both nibble from without being too large that they went to waste.
Overall, service was excellent and the food was great. Menu pricing is a little on the higher end but still reasonable, I think, given the general quality. I would have loved to see a bit more lettuce in my salad to fill it out a bit more but the rest of the items were decently...
