Great Lakes Ace — Local services in Southfield

Update to my negative review two weeks ago:

I've given this trip 5 stars! I'm awaiting knee replacement surgery and yesterday was a "bad knee day" so I had to use a cane. (Puts bad hair days in perspective!) I hobbled next door to Ace to stretch my leg and I needed a small bag of sand for a painting project. The smallest bag in stocks was 50lbs, about 49 more than I needed. The price was right and employee Connor said he'd load it for me, but it would be too much for me to unload at home. I could have waited for the weekend when I would have company to help, but I really wanted to finish before company arrived. Embarrassed, I asked Connor if he could open it and split it into several bags I could carry. He agreed just asked for a little time because he was covering the register. I gratefully paid and drove my car back after work. He was ready for me and loaded them up. I got home and was able unload them myself and finished my project! Thank you!

I love Ace & try to use them rather than the Home Depot behemoth stores. This Ace is next to my work but it's difficult to find any help or expertise. The cashier has been there awhile, I believe, but you can see on her face and by her service that the needle on her give-a-damn meter...

I called the store in Southfield, MI on 2/8/2023 requesting information pertaining to drywall. The store clerk explained to me that he would pass my information along to Kate Groudis to further assist me. I received a call from Kate within an hour. We discussed what I was looking for and she said she will be getting back to me. Within a day she called me back telling me that she was able to locate the drywall and will be able to deliver them to me personally on Monday morning. On Monday 2/12/23 Kate & Brandon Stewart personally delivered the drywall that we were in need of. They both personally went the extra mile for me & my business.

I wasn't aware of this service that Ace Hardware provides to their business customers; however because of the outstanding service I received from Kate & Brandon; Ace Hardware will now become my 1st place I visit when I am in need of supplies!

It was just a few years ago when the Ace Hardware Southfield managers seemed inconvenienced when asked for help and the employees followed their lead. I gave this location another chance last year (OK, so it was just convenient for me... I grudgingly stopped in for a quick purchase). But I've discovered ACE HAS CHANGED from "I'd rather get lost in a big box store" to "this is my hardware store"! The manager, Connor, has turned the customer experience around to positive and helpful. Employees greet you now, they ask if they can help you, if they don't know the answer to your question; they will ask someone that does. They are a team.
