I had been going to house of pop for awhile and found a stylist that I loved. I always booked my appointments out 6 weeks to do an undercut trim and refresh my custom color of purple. Well a couple days before my last appointment I got a call that the stylist I was scheduled with was no longer with them (this wasnāt the stylist doing). I had texted the stylist a couple days prior to the call looking forward to seeing her. We had also scheduled for my 5 year old niece to get some purple in her hair to be like auntie.
Well I got a call from Jess saying I could reschedule with her, and I did not want to let my niece down as she had been looking forward to this hair appointment for a few weeks. We get there and first it was about 20 minutes past our appointment time before getting brought back. Then when asking about the purple in my hair I explained that the stylist I saw always mixed colors to make sure it was vivid bright purple that as it was washed and faded changed to a soft gorgeous lilac purple that I didnāt want it to appear blue or pink. Jess then brought out some hair swatches and said they werenāt colored quite right but to choose and I asked about how they faded and she said they should be fine. Well my hair is fading and is quite blue now, she obviously did not know the products, or the science behind the color. Then with my undercut I explained that it was various lengths and that I liked the layered kinda tapered look. Jess chose a clipper and clipped it all off. She was obviously not comfortable with the clippers and I wish she would have just told me that. My previous stylist and I had worked really hard to get it shaped how it was.
Then it was my nieceās turn, and. I explained they do curly girl method and primarily just do conditioner washes and the out product and conditioner in her hair and asked if it would be a problem with the coloring, Jess said no. Well she does the coloring, barely interacting with my niece like she was uncomfortable with her. And then when it came time for the rinse out the color all rinsed out. Jess was like Iām not sure why it didnāt take. She still charged us for it, she offered either a small discount for her color (which was supposed to be to strands on each side of her face) or for her to come back in to try again. At this point I did not want to come back as it had been a pretty dismal experience and normally I love hair day! My niece was disappointed and I didnāt want to make a scene for her sake so we paid and left.
I followed up with my previous hair stylist and she said conditioner and product can be a barrier and a shampoo needed to happen on my nieceās hair. Once she found a new place we went to her and got the color in my nieceās hair. She saw my hair and knew it wasnāt what I wanted and I see her next week to redo the highlights and purple to my correct color. And we will work to reshape the undercut part of my hair as it grows out again.
I am disappointed that such a great stylist was let go without a plan or notice to her clients, that someone with less experience and expertise was who was offered to reschedule who was not honest about her limitations or knowledge. And that when things didnāt go right or well there was no real apology or concern. I will no longer go back to this place under the name House of Pop or their rebrand...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI want to be as nice as possible and say the hair stylist who did my hair is super nice and we had a great time talking both appointments. However, I feel like I was overcharged and the appointed took way longer than it shouldāve. I also did not get the color I wanted and same with the hair cut. Iāve attached the inspo photos.. but I really wanted this purple and by the end of the appointment it was a really dark purple almost midnight black. The hair cut was fairly similar, but the bangs were just trimmed even though I clairified wispy bangs like the inspiration photo. My bangs before the appointment were blunt and somewhat long, but I may have only gotten a few centimeters cut off. I was told to come back because my stylist wanted to make the purple more vibrant and it wouldāve been free of charge. After a couple washes my hair was slightly more vibrant, but I still went back. After the second appointment my hair was even more dark than the first time around. When I was able to wash my hair the color was this green/blue not purple whatsoever. I know my stylist put this toner in to make the purple vibrant, but as far as I know that shouldnāt have made my hair green/blue. The amount I paid has also bothered me. Now, this is for the first appointment. I had asked the receptionist for a price estimate and was told $230-$250. I didnāt mind that too much. The appointment was from 2:00 until 7:00 which is closing. I was 15 minutes early and didnāt mind waiting of course. When I was ready to pay I was charged $320. I believe the lightening my dark spots was why took so long, but I donāt think I shouldāve been charged $320 for a five hour appointment when I didnāt do anything wrong. I had done a $35 tip and had I known it was going to be over $300 I wouldāve done a bigger tip so I apologize for that. When I went back for the second appointment i tipped $50. All in all it was $405 and I am just really disappointed my hair is not how I wanted it to be and I pad over $400 all together.. I donāt think I really want anything done now, but I just thought to share my experience. I don't think my hair stylist is a terrible person and I enjoyed...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had the most incredible hair experience with Douglas at House of Pop. He was attentive, informative, professional and did an outstanding job on my haircut! He made sure to understand me as a person, what cut would work for my hair type and lifestyle, and what would flatter my face shape. He showed me how to style, treat and manage my hair and catered it to my lifestyle so I wouldnāt feel overwhelmed or feel like my routine was disrupted. He took the time to talk me through all aspects of my hair and helped develop a game plan for how to achieve my hair goals. I came to him feeling very āblahā and insecure about my hair, but I left his chair feeling confident, beautiful and pampered! I had never been to this salon before, nor do I personally know anyone who has been, but the atmosphere was very friendly and I felt very welcomed. I believe I found āmy personā and āmy placeā. I highly recommend House of Pop and am already looking forward to my next appointment with Douglas! Thank you!
UPDATE (about two years later): This is my second time at House of Pop, but my first time with Megan. Again, I was so impressed with this salon. Megan was an absolute delight! She talked me through the whole process, we had an informative and in-depth conversation about my hair (I.e what style, cut, bangs/no bangs, length, etc). She did an amazing job and showed me different ways to style my hair when she was done with the cut. Twice now, Iāve walked into that salon feeling a insecure about my hair and walked out with my head held high and a confidence boost. They really take the time to consider your lifestyle and how much time and effort you want to put into your hair and suggest a cut accordingly. Always a pleasure, House of Pop!...
