I was admitted to this facility on March 11, and I'm writing this review to warn others about the distressing and humiliating experience I endured. The reality of this place is vastly different from the image portrayed on their website.
Patients, including myself, faced constant miscommunication, lack of essential information provided to both patients and their families, and threats of revoking family visitation rights if we dared to voice concerns or assert our basic rights. The environment is restrictive, isolating, and offers minimal therapeutic activities beyond basic coloring and generic group sessions that felt completely detached from patients' real experiences
Once admitted, nurses treated patients with disrespect, condescension, and an evident sense of power imbalance. Sleep was nearly impossible with intrusive flashlight checks every 15 minutes throughout the night. The food provided was not only unhealthy but also disregarded critical dietary needs. Despite discussing necessary dietary accommodations due to my chronic illness, no changes were implemented, which exacerbated my health issues significantly.
Basic hygiene needs were neglected, with no access to proper hot water for showers (the toiletry that they provided has terrible quality). During one-on-one sessions with nurses, I was explicitly discouraged from expressing genuine emotions like crying, under the implicit threat that doing so could prolong my stay. Assessments from the psychiatrist was very superficial, without any understanding of my needs.
The admission process itself was cold and uninformative. Staff members at the front desk, particularly a very rude woman and an employee named Connor, treated me dismissively. Connor pressured me into signing papers for an involuntary stay, insinuating that resistance or questions would cause "problems" with the doctors and result in a longer stay.
This institution, supposedly a private facility dedicated to patient care, is driven solely by profit, often at the cost of misdiagnosing and further traumatizing vulnerable individuals. My autonomy, dignity, and fundamental rights were stripped away, leaving me and other patients more vulnerable and emotionally scarred than before our admission. The trauma from this experience still haunts me, causing nightmares and lasting emotional distress.
I know the staff will attempt to justify their actions by stating that they have protocols to follow and specific patients they must closely monitor. However, the clear issue here is the significant lack of resources and, importantly, the absence of a comprehensive, humane, and compassionate behavioral health program tailored to the severity of each patient's illness. This institution, supposedly a private facility dedicated to patient care, is driven solely by profit, often at the expense of mismanaged resources and patient dignity, significantly exacerbating the issues they claim to address.
I share my experience hoping to hold this manipulative staff accountable for the psychological harm inflicted upon patients and their families. My heart breaks for those who cannot speak out. Shame on this facility for perpetuating such abuse under the guise of mental...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI would give zero stars if I could. I will start by saying that I typically don't take much stock in google reviews for psychiatric facilities / providers. However, you should with this place! My child went there and their "treatment" was subpar to say the least. My child is nonbinary/born female. They decided to move my child into the boy's unit WITHOUT DISCUSSING IT WITH ME, WITHOUT ASKING MY CHILD ABOUT IT, OR NOTIFYING ME. My child was terrified and was moved back hours later after spending the entire day crying. I didn't event know they were moved to the unit until I got a call saying they were moved back to the female unit. The left arm doesn't know what the right arm is doing. Any time I would try to ask questions of staff or speak with someone, I was given a HUGE attitude and treated as though I'm an inconvenience. I had one "nurse" yell at me on the phone because I asked to speak directly with the psychiatrist. I had to speak with the charge nurse to get my child out of there early. They didn't discuss discharge with me. They threatened to switch my child's stay to involuntary if I tried to remove them AMA, but quickly changed that tune when I threatened malpractice sighting the gross negligence and lack of treatment that my child was receiving. They didn't have my child attend group therapy unless they felt like it and there was no one on one therapy sessions. My child witness a lot of violence and medical emergencies of other patients that sounded as though was not handled well at all. They refused to prescribe my child anything for panic attacks after I told them that hydroxizine does nothing but make my child sleepy. I couldn't get the psychiatrist to speak to me to discuss alternatives or get a nurse to call me back about this either. They changed the dosage of my child's medication without consulting me as well. I didn't find out until discharge that it had been changed to something other than what was initially discussed. I barely got a few minutes for the "family session" over the phone. I can keep going. The units are also extremely dated, dirty, and falling apart. The lock on the exit door to the unit was broken when we got there, and the receptionist mentioned that the main doors kept opening without them hitting the button. They don't use a computer system for charting and apparently they don't write down messages in the charts or pass along messages to the appropriate providers. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE - HEAD THE WARNINGS FROM ALL OF THESE NEGATIVE REVIEWS.
UPDATE TO CYPRESS CREEK as of 2/22/24- you know who I am, who my child is, and how to contact me. I already spoke with Michael B (who refused to give me his last name) and explained everything going on to him. I doubt by his reaction that anything was done with my grievances outside of agreeing to discharge my child after I had to explain how the circumstances were borderline malpractice. I've explained everything that happened here. For the sake of your patients and their families- just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been to 5 mental hospitals in Houston. This particular one 4 times. Last visit was January 2022. I admitted myself because I was having psychosis and unbearable anxiety. My medications I was on, were not helping. This facility could use a lot of help. Some positives are they accept medicaid and private insurance. The adults are allowed to smoke/bring your unopened packs. Most of the staff was nice and tolerant, however not well trained in many areas. They are not helpful with providing answers at all and often use stall tactics to avoid appearing uninformed. Their basic function is a babysitter. What really frustrated me the most is they tricked me by saying I could sign myself out at any time, if I was voluntarily checking in. After being there for 4 days and only seeing a Dr. once, for 5 minutes. They insisted on keeping me on meds that were not working. I was not receiving any kind of helpful treatment. And you never know when the Dr will see you. The nurses don't know and can't provide you with any hope. I was ready to sign out. So I told the nurse, what do I need to do, she said oh you're not leaving. You must sign a request form, which is handed to your Dr. The Dr then has 4 hours after receiving the letter to decide to release you AMA, or request the judge to court order your stay. And, she said (rudely) that the Dr's not going to release me as long as my insurance is paying for my stay they wanted to keep there. So the Dr. No matter what, would get the judge to make me stay, and , she warns me that if I choose that route it's likely the judge will make me stay longer. I felt like my basic freedom rights were being violated, and she clearly knew this and didn't care. Other than that, they had 2 "groups" a day lead by people with no special title or license. They just pass out some papers with basic info on mental health, boundaries, coping skills, basic things. Very simple, nothing is personalized, the information is sort of belittling, considering most of the patients are high functioning. The facilities: not fancy or better than other hospitals. Showers were old, broken tiles, no pressure, crooked stream. Food is good for many folks who like country style cooking, but I like a healthier variety. Entertainment is basically none. They had 2 t.v's both were blurry and barely visible also they kept the volume so low you can't hear. They had print out color sheets and crosswords but the games and puzzles were all broken and missing parts. They do have free phones that are on most of the day. They were not allowing visitors. Even though at then end of my stay I was feeling worse than at the start, I lied to the Dr. because I felt trapped and I saw there was nothing they were doing for me. No matter how many more days I stayed, O was not being cared for or treated right. And it was clear they were using me to get paid. So I lied and said my medicine was working and I was happy and not experiencing any anxiety or...
